Deadline is reporting that Avengers: Endgame and Hawkeye star Jeremy Renner is in "critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather related accident while plowing snow earlier [on Sunday]." This isn't a rumour or tabloid report either as those comments come directly from the Oscar nominee's spokesperson.
There haven't been any additional updates overnight, but the trade notes that Renner was airlifted to hospital following the accident, so that should tell you all you need to know about how serious this is.
The actor's spokesperson adds that the actor is "receiving excellent care" and is currently with his family.
Renner is said to have a home near Reno that's in the Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe area. A bad storm hit the region on New Year's Eve, resulting in more than 35,000 homes losing power. While we don't know the circumstances of the accident, it sounds like the actor was using a snow plow to clear up his property when tragedy struck.
The actor, nominated for "Best Actor" at the Oscars for his work in The Hurt Locker and "Best Supporting Actor" for The Town, will likely be best known to many of you for his work in the MCU.
Renner first played Clint Barton/Hawkeye in 2011's Thor, later reprising the role in The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Disney+'s Hawkeye.
The actor will next be seen in Paramount+'s Mayor of Kingstown when season 2 begins on January 15. It's unclear whether that's going to be delayed now or, assuming he makes a full recovery, how long Renner will be sidelined.
Needless to say, we hope he gets better soon and will continue sharing updates as they roll in. The fact he's stable is good, but being in "critical" condition is obviously cause for concern; we're sure Jeremy is getting the best care possible, though.
