Unfortunately, we have some bad news, Jessica Jones fans. It’s going to be a while before we see Marvel’s Jessica Jones Season 2 on Netflix, sadly.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Marvel’s Jessica Jones begins production in 2017, which is about a full year later than we thought the series would start production.
Melissa Rosenberg, the showrunner of Jessica Jones, announced the news in an interview with Bloomberg’s Katherine Oliver and Vulture’s Stacey Wilson Hunt for “The City of Scenes” podcast, according to the report.
After Jessica Jones premiered on Netflix in November, it was clear the series was destined for a second season. Netflix and Marvel renewed the series for a second season shortly after. We assumed we would see another season of Jessica Jones this year or early 2017 at the latest. Well, that timeline seems to be completely wrong.
Production on Jessica Jones Season 2 has been held off to make time for The Defenders, the miniseries that brings together the original four Marvel-Netflix collaborations Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. The Defenders begins production near the end of the year. Krysten Ritter who plays Jessica Jones will also star in The Defenders.
If production on Jessica Jones Season 2 begins in early 2017, there’s still a pretty good chance we will see the new season by the end of 2017, possibly around November like the first season’s release. On the other hand, if production does not begin until the late spring or summer, it could be 2018 before Jessica Jones Season 2 finds its way to Netflix.
It seems crazy that would possibly have to wait that long for another season of Jessica Jones, but there are so many shows and new seasons of Marvel shows coming to Netflix in the near future that it seems inevitable that Jessica Jones would be bumped until after The Defenders.
