SHE-HULK Director Kat Coiro On Humorous Approach To Disney+ Series And Possibility Of A Season 2

She-Hulk is expected to arrive on Disney+ later this year, though Marvel Studios has yet to share more than a few snippets of footage from the series. Tatiana Maslany will play Jennifer Walters alongside a returning Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, and there's a lot of excitement to see what direction Marvel Studios takes this character in (especially with rumours of a Daredevil cameo).

Talking to The Wrap to promote her new movie Marry Me, She-Hulk director Kat Coiro said she signed on in an effort to "bring a mix of humor and heart" to the Marvel Studios project. "That is what I love to watch. And it’s what I love to work with," the filmmaker continued. "And so when I stepped into, you know, the Marvel playground - the cool thing about Marvel is that it is an ever-evolving universe and you have straight dramas, and you have very comedic films, and we are in that world where we’re definitely playing with a more comedic world, but it also is still part of Marvel land."

Coiro went on to say she approached She-Hulk by "[focusing] on the characters and performance and finding the humor but also grounding it in reality." We can't say for sure, but that latter comment could be an indication the title character won't be breaking the fourth wall similar to Deadpool (which is one of the biggest rumours currently doing the rounds about the Disney+ series).

The trade asked if there are already plans for a season 2 of She-Hulk, but Coiro wasn't foolish enough to give anything away. "I will let Kevin Feige answer that question," she laughed. "For now, we have done a season and it’s coming out sometime this year. And we’ll go from there."

It feels like Jennifer's introduction could be a real game-changer for the MCU. It's impossible to imagine her not ultimately assembling alongside The Avengers, for example, and if those claims about a World War Hulk movie are accurate, common sense says she'll be front and centre there as well.

As noted by the director, She-Hulk is expected to arrive on Disney+ later in 2022.

I've been assuming that most of the "spin-off" shows that feature the movie actors were going to be one-and-done, while the characters debuting on Disney+ would be aiming at multiple-season runs.

(Loki is sort of an outlier because he doesn't have an organic place in the MCU continuity anymore, and Hawkeye/Kate Bishop was a hybrid series that felt like both a spin-off and a debut.)

In general, I just don't expect streaming shows to last long. Feels like the business model tops out around 6 seasons for even the most culturally impactful series, and even most successful series don't seem to last more than 3 or 4. Compared to broadcast, where it feels like you can practically coast to 8 seasons with just decent ratings.
