WHAT IF...? Character Poster Highlights The Guardians Of The Multiverse; New "Finale" Promo Released

The Guardians of the Multiverse assembled in yesterday's season finale of What If...?, and Marvel Studios has now shared a cool character poster featuring the team of Variants chosen by The Watcher...

With an Ultron powered by the Infinity Stones tearing his way through the Multiverse, The Watcher chose to break his oath in the season finale of What If...? by bringing together a group of heroes (and the odd villain). The "Guardians of the Multiverse" was made up of Captain Carter, Doctor Strange Supreme, Star-Lord, Party Thor, Black Widow, Killmonger, and Gamora.

They made for a formidable team, and one we could see assemble in some form again down the line. It's definitely hard to imagine we've seen the last of these characters, something director Bryan Andrews and Head Writer A.C. Bradley hinted at during a recent interview with Variety.

"I would wager it’s a relatively safe bet," the former laughed when asked if we'll see more of Captain America. Bradley, meanwhile, added: "For me, the difference between a twist ending that we were doing all season and a post-credits teaser is that a twist ending is fun, but a post-credits teaser is a promise." In other words, that stinger is going to be followed up on.

While this poster for What If...? mostly reuses previously seen character banners, it makes for a cool piece of imagery. We can only hope they one day make their live-action debut in the MCU, of course.

A TV spot has also been released for What If...?, featuring footage from the finale and hyping up the fact that all 9 episodes of Marvel Studios' first animated series are now streaming on Disney+.

Check out that, and the new poster, below:

Really wish they changed the name to the Exiles and instead made it like Ultron invaded their universe so that they would have a reason other than believing the guy with the big head that just took them.

And also, still feels weird to see Gamora there. They could've just taken her out and replaced her and the Infinity Crusher with Black Widow and the Zolabot from the start.

@bkmeijer - they are the exiles in everything but name, id liked to see pymjacket in the roster, it couldve added a powerful team member and given us Hank vs Ultron

@Dannywest - having Pym would've been a lot better. Could've taken Killmonger's place instead and it still would've worked I'd say

I’ve come to the realization that I didn’t really care for this series. I actually started to check out pretty early in the episode and was just kind of bored for the rest of it because I just didn’t care about any of it. I don’t disliked the show but overall I find it the definition of meh for me, if there’s a Season 2 I’ll be skipping unless there’s something that effects the actual MCU in some way

Loved the last two episodes… but I can only guess they either found a flaw they had to fix in the Gamora episode they moved to season 2 or they realized it just threw off the pacing of the last few episodes to include it. I just find it weird to add that episode to season 2 when it was meant to establish Gamora for the final season 1 episode.

@slickrickdesigns - The studio responsible for that particular episode was hit hard by covid-19 so they couldn't finish it in time.

The finale was absolute dogshit for a couple reasons, but the biggest one for me was black Watcher overlooking Stark from Gamora’s universe in favor of [frick]ing KILLMONGER. Brothers need to stick together, I guess? Oh wait no he’s evil WHO COULD HAVE SEEN THAT COMING??

@Kurban - Watch the episode again and this time pay attention to what the Watcher and Strange says. It's all explained within the episode. The Watcher did see that Killmonger was evil; it was part of his plan!

@ElvenKingSlayer - Was it also his plan to not recruit Spider-Man, who was clearly marketed to be a member of the Guardians and then was just ditched after the zombie episode?

@Kurban - I don't know...

Even though I enjoyed the finale, I wouldve liked this show more if they kept it as an anthology and kept the universes / stories seperate. Not it basically leading to yet another team up movie.

I enjoyed the end. It brought the stories together and gave us one hell of a villain. I look forward to seeing Gamoras placement purpose in the next season.
