Jeffrey Wright first made his debut as The Watcher in the animated TV series What If...?, and fans have remained eager ever since to see him play Uatu in live-action.
Well, we may be one step closer to that actually happening.
According to The Cosmic Circus, we'll see Wright make his return as The Watcher later this year, though it won't be in What If...? season 2 (as things stand, that's not expected to hit Disney+ until 2024). This will mark his first appearance out of that series and suggests there are serious Multiversal shenanigans afoot.
So, when and where could it happen? The site doesn't specify, though we don't think it will be in Secret Invasion or Echo. The Marvels is a possibility, of course, especially as it's a cosmic adventure but we can't help thinking that Loki season 2 is the far more likely possibility.
That series will put the Multiverse front and centre, and with it likely setting the stage for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, The Watcher showing up to observe events makes perfect sense.
However, it's worth noting that the site teases the possibility of "another project on the way this year that hasn’t been announced," so we'll have to wait and see.
Between the mixed response to many of Marvel Studios' Multiverse Saga projects and the fact The Flash bombed, there are those wondering if we'll see Kang the Conqueror's story put on the back burner (particularly as Jonathan Majors' legal issues are a long way from being sorted out).
It's hard to say whether that's going to be the case, particularly as the studio seems committed to telling this Multiversal story. Loki and Deadpool 3 could go a long way in winning over fans, of course, though we wouldn't be surprised if the rest of this story is primarily confined to the next two Avengers movies after that.
Where do you think we'll next see The Watcher?
