Zack Snyder parted ways with Warner Bros. in 2017 when they decided to take Justice League in a different direction, and he didn't tackle another movie until Netflix enlisted him for Army of the Dead (the "Snyder Cut" reshoots took place after production on the movie concluded).
The zombie blockbuster hits the streaming service next Friday, and we now have the first wave of reviews.
With a total of 34 reviews counted, it has a 76% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus, meanwhile, reads: "An ambitious, over-the-top zombie heist mashup, Army of the Dead brings Zack Snyder back to his genre roots with a suitably gory splash."
Overall, it sounds like a fun time, and while some fans were concerned after that last trailer revealed "smart" zombies (and a zombie tiger), it sounds like the filmmaker has found a way to make it work. Of course, this is just a very early score for Army of the Dead, and as more reviews come in over the next couple of weeks, chances are that score will fluctuate to at least some extent.
Whether it goes up or down remains to be seen, but there's no denying that this is a good start.
We'll hopefully be able to share our Army of the Dead verdict with you soon. In the meantime, you can check out what other critics have had to say about the movie by following the link below.
