Problems which were followed up by the departure of Gillian Anderson (X-Files).  Despite these problems, Starz CEO Chris Albrecht did inspire some hope that the showrunner position may be close to filled, when he said comic book legend Neil Gaiman would be "moving forward into a more traditional showrunner function." However, now Gaiman himself has commented on this statement, clarifying his role in the production of season 2.

In his Twitter statement, Gaiman says he will not be acting as showrunner because if his commitments to the show Good Omens. Furthermore, he adds that he will, however, "work really closely" with whoever is chosen for the position as he did for season 1.
