After the cancellation of his critically acclaimed show Hannibal, producer Bryan Fuller, alongside Michael Green, decided to set their sights on adapting and bringing to life Neil Gaiman's best-selling novel American Gods. Fans of the novel were able to catch a glimpse of the new show today during its first-ever Comic-Con panel as the cast and crew made an appearance while also premiering the first trailer.

Now, Starz has released the first official trailer online starring The 100's Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, a man, who after meeting a mysterious stranger known as Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), finds himself at the center of a war between the Old Gods and the New Gods of our time.

When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know, this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife, and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the center of a world that he struggles to understand. It’s a world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they’ve lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it.

Freemantlemedia is partnered with Starz on this and this show has been trainwreck production wise. Just a never ending money pit.

I'll be damned, but that looks pretty much like a perfect adaptation of the book. Even the mystical stuff looks appropriately otherworldly.

@thor2273 -

I need to check out Power, especially as Omari Hardwick is an awesome but underrated actor.

Excellent book which I really enjoyed.
When I read it though I imagined Dwayne Johnson as Shadow, similar to his character in Faster where he is this huge silent type of guy.

I know Vin Diesel was mentioned by Gaiman as an inspiration.

Looking forward to this show which has a fantastic cast, and seeing Whittle in future Comic Fancasts.

@SimplyAz - he was awsome as Lincoln in the 100. One of the only reasons I watched it. now it makes sense why he got killed off.
