Marvel May Be Skipping Comic-Con But Sony Is Bringing Its SPIDER-MAN Universe To Hall H

It's been confirmed today that Sony will be bringing Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to Comic-Con on Friday, July 20th at 6.15pm. Marvel Studios has decided to give the event a miss this year as have a number of other studios but seeing more from both of these promises to be a lot of fun for fans as clips will no doubt be shown to those in attendance and we could even get new trailers.

Much of Into the Spider-Verse has been kept under wraps so it will be good to learn more about the movie and the trailer promised even more characters would be revealed at the event in San Diego.

Venom, meanwhile, needs to do a lot of win fans over so here's hoping Sony does something to help with that because the studio will need to build a lot more excitement for the Spidey-less Spider-Man spinoff if they're expecting it to be a hit this October. Deadline speculates that Tom Holland could make a surprise appearance and that Spider-Man: Far From Home could end up being promoted as well.

"Spider-Man Universe": Named after literally the one thing that isn't in it.

Still can't get over the fact that Sony's SPIDER-MAN universe is without a Spider-Man (with the exception of Into the Spider-Verse) SMH.

We should all be thankful that Sony at least made significant connections with a well established comic book movie system before it comes back to try it again... again.

This deal was a mistake, after Fox, Disney should target not Sony, but Spidey's rights.

This same type of deal with Fox and all the mutant characters would've been great, it just doesn't work with Spidey tho. :/

@Doomsday8888 - Why?

@Doomsday8888 -

Spider-Man has been the bread and butter for Sony for 16 years.

They are short on reliable franchises with James Bond being a lock,
Men in Black getting a reboot and Ghostbusters being radioactive.

They will never give up Spider-Man because the deal Marvel struck with
them in the 90's was highway robbery of a bankrupt Marvel on Sony's
part but a deal is a deal.

If Disney threw a bunch of money at them for Spidey, Sony would still be left with a weak film slate to go against the big boys of Disney
WB, Universal, and Paramount.

@JustAChillDude - I saw that... Looking like it'll be either:

1. LeBron and Kawhi in LA (PG stays in OKC)
2. LeBron and PG13 in LA (Kawhi stays in SA or goes elsewhere)
3. LeBron, Kawhi, AND PG13 in LA (very unlikely)
4. LeBron in LA and they sign Cousins, Aaron Gordon or a player similar (I think THIS is most likely)
5. LeBron in CLE and they sign a big FA. (second most likely)

I'm feeling the Spider-Verse movie, but if I have to see Avi Arad wearing douchebag sunglasses inside and a t-shirt with a spider-logo on it, I will scream.

If he's also wearing a beanie, I may never stop screaming.

I’m excited for the Sony movies. Not only are they finally bringing me some movies based upon the Valiant heroes but they are also bringing cool heroes/anti-heroes to the big screen from Marvel that were unlikely to ever get movies. I really want to see Morbius and Nightwatch especially. Plus what’s the worst that can happen? They suck? Oh well. Not my money.

Spock0Clock - 6/29/2018, 2:26 AM
@TheUnworthyThor - The Valiant stuff really is much appreciated. Especially if the big two publishers do get whittled down to essentially two movie studios, it will be nice to have a third-party as something else to talk about besides Marvel vs. DC (if nothing else).

And it's a whole stable of characters I don't much at all about, so there's freshness and low-stakes for me personally.

You know, for all of Pascal's very obvious focus on trying to make a female-led film tangentially Spider-related (and apparently getting cold feet), I'm still frustrated that there's not even been a suggestion of using Araña.

Young, female, hispanic, and with a lot of unique gimmicks to play with, while actually being at arm's length from Peter Parker. You could fudge the origin of her exoskeleton to be related to the symbiotes, or lean into the mystical totemic stuff that really never belonged with Spidey to begin with.

I mean... maybe she's not under the umbrella of the original deal (I didn't read all of those leaked emails hashing out who owned what). She might be stuck in a legal limbo like Spider-Ham.

Spock0Clock - 6/29/2018, 2:57 AM
I mean... looking at her now with a fanny-pack, a tribal tattoo, and a bra on her head doesn't exactly do her justice. But there was potential there, I swear.
