Topher Grace Will Not be in Venom Spin-Off Movie

Topher has not been approached for 2012 film.

Topher Grace was recently asked about his involvement in the planned 2012 release of "Venom" by MovieWeb: "Um, I don't know? You know, I guess," replied Grace reluctantly. We continued by asking if he had been approached at all by producers or the studio about appearing in the film? "I don't know, I haven't heard anything," he said. So just to be clear, at this time you don't plan on appearing in the film, we followed up by asking. "No, I don't think so," answered Grace. So there you have it, Grace has no intentions, right now, of returning to the part, which has been said will be more of an anti-hero than a killer or villain in the new film. The film is set for a 2012 release and will be produced by Disney Studios as part of their recent headline-making acquisition of Marvel Entertainment.

"Get this stuff off of me!"

Venom has already been through 3 screenwriters and is currently under re-write by attached director, Gary Ross. Even though Venom appeared in Sony's Spider-Man 3, Marvel retained the rights to the character. To say Topher got luke-warm reaction from fans would be an understatement. The film is said to have Venom portrayed as an Anti-Hero. There is the potential to do a visually stunning and madcap movie with Venom, especially if Carnage is involved. Hopefully this news will help calm those of us who thought the Spidey 3 version was crap(I know I did)!

Why the hell did they pic topher grace in the first place?!? Eddy Brock is an 'olympic level body builder'! Topher Grace is the puny, whiney, annoying stick figure from that 70's show. That casting call is worst that Kate Bosworth's Lois Lane! But hey, its hollywood. Why would they stay true to the source material?

good. Grace did a decent job, but yeah it was very poor casting.

Personally I have doubts that this will even happen within the timeframe that has been suggested. It will either get pushed back or shelved altogether IMO

so wait...Disney's going to help produce a VENOM movie? All jokes aside with it being cartoonish and lighthearted, i don't think Disney has the balls to show Venom as he really is in the comixx. And if carnage is going to be in the movie, there has to be some gore/graphic violence. It should be rated R, but Disney won't do that so this movies gonnaa suuuuckkk
jazzman
jazzman - 12/21/2009, 7:39 AM
@Spider-Fan

you forget that Disney owns Miramax Films. so they can put the Venom movie at Miramax Films and produce a R-rated movie.

Duhdaduh - 12/21/2009, 7:46 AM
theyll have to reboot the whole thing, spiderman 3 started and went off in the completely shit false direction. but its gonna be dumb having a venom spinoff that isnt related to the spiderman arc of it...
they should just wait until one day they reboot spiderman, make a REAL venom storyline with it, then make whatever spinoff they want...

@jazzman: Correct, I think people just associate Disney with the mouse. They're a multifaceted conglomerate. Disney/Miramax put out Pulp Fiction. As for Venom, I'm not really looking forward to this film. I like Venom more as a villain.

mounted: I just don't believe that marvel and Disney are concerned with a venom movie at this point.

Marvel is finally starting to put together a shared movie universe and do fantastic movies. Why would they get sidetracked with something like Venom( who without Spider Man, doesn't fit into this universe.)

There are so many characters that need exploring right now that would fit in this universe that I just don't think they will do Venom.

Besides all that when was the last time Venom was really a hot item. Right now he isn't even Eddie Brock.

This is hot air in my opinion.

Even though Topher Grace was largely a wrong choice
for Venom, I liked his version of Venom, albeit his
part in Spiderman 3 was BULL.

Personally, just by looking at Dominic Purcell's picture, he doesnt look like he merits much performance other than "Venom Smash". I have never seen
him in a movie or show
before though,
so anybody can call my bluff right now, lol.

@Fartman -

I've got mixed feelings about Purcell. He was pretty awesome in the show Prison Break, but he played a shit-tastic Dracula in Blade 3. He certainly looks more the part for Eddie Brock than Topher Grace, but I would just have to see him play the guy, to judge.

If this is being made by Marvel Studios, consider me excited. :)

They shoulda taken back Spidey and made a proper Spidey Venom Trilogy...I love the Venom character but his own series? How can you do a series and not involve Spidey? I know there is a Venom comic etc...etc...and that he had his stories...but with no proper justice being done to this character or the Spidey/Venom rivalry...how can you justify a solo franchise? If you're going to work into Venom/Canage you have to involve Spidey...there's no if, and's or but's about that...honestly...TDK coulda been Pandora's box for CBM's...they may just go and rape and pillage every character out there now...maybe we look back at all this 20 years down the road and ask if it was worth pimpin out all these characters and stories...

I thought Topher Grace did a good job, given what HE was given. But I always thought he should've been the one to play Spiderman.

CorndogBurglar - 12/21/2009, 11:09 AM
for the people asking, they picked topher because they went more with the ultimate version of brock than the 616 universe brock.

but yeah, it was a terrible decision.

Topher Grace = BIG TOOL. Thank God he is not going to play Venom.....
Osiris
Osiris - 12/21/2009, 11:38 AM
I have said this before, but you all forget that in the Ultimate universe Eddie is a skinny kid with freckles, he is not a muscle bound jock, so Topher being cast as Eddie isn't that bad.

InSpace
InSpace - 12/21/2009, 11:40 AM
CDB@No,They picked Topher cause they were going with an Anti-Spidey route with Venom.
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 12/21/2009, 11:50 AM
I really liked Grace in SM 3, because in the context of the movie, he fit the Venom they went for.

They turned Venom into a distorted, mirror-image of Spider-Man, and Grace worked well with that interpretation.

Should he come back? No. We need a more primal and intense Venom in the spin-off, and Grace wouldn't work well with that.

So Alexander Skarsgaard or Sam Witwer for Venom.
