Earlier this week, it was rumoured that Loki star Owen Wilson was being eyed for a role in Venom 3. Immediately, speculation started running rampant that he might be in talks to return as TVA agent Mobius, an idea that never really made sense.
After all, despite Marvel Studios' working relationship with Sony Pictures, it makes zero sense for Kevin Feige to allow the studio to use an MCU character in a franchise that's been poorly reviewed from the start. Mobius being in Deadpool 3 adds up, but Venom 3? After the way Morbius handled the Multiverse with The Vulture's arrival in Sony's Marvel Universe, it's fair to say they've created a mess not even the TVA can fix.
Now, scooper Daniel Richtman is claiming that the role Wilson was offered was never for Mobius and he decided to pass regardless.
Instead, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Jemaine Clement (Legion) are now among those being eyed to join the threequel. There's no word on who any of these actors are being considered for, but Sony has access to literally thousands of characters from Spider-Man's corner of the Marvel Universe.
We recently learned that Ted Lasso star Juno Temple has joined Venom 3 in a mystery role. She joins Tom Hardy as the returning Eddie Brock/Venom, while franchise writer Kelly Marcel is stepping behind the camera to direct.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, though Venom: Let There Be Carnage set the stage for Toxin to take aim at Eddie. Spider-Man: No Way Home saw the Lethal Protector travel to the MCU, though he didn't stick around long enough to actually meet anyone of note (though another Ted Lasso actor, Cristo Fernández, played that bartender).
CinemaCon is this week, so we might have more news about the movie soon.
Venom 3 is expected to be released in theaters in 2024.
