The Mortal Kombat franchise has been around for going on 20 years, it is considered one of the most legendary franchises in gaming history. I mean how could it not seeing how it is the cause of the creation of ESRB. It has had it's ups and downs, it should've died out after Mortal Kombat 4. After Midway went bankrupt and the Mortal Kombat property being bought by Warner Bros. does Ed Boon's Netherrealm Studios' reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise a successful ressurection? Was one of 2011's most anticipated games worth it? Find out below.

Story: Taking place after the events of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Mortal Kombat starts with about every character in the MK Universe dead except for Raiden and Shao Kahn. Raiden makes one last desperate attempt to save the world by sending messages back to himself from the original Mortal Kombat. From there the player plays through the original 3 games.

Gameplay: The gameplay is easy and makes for fast paced gaming. It goes back to the roots of the franchise with new additions to the gameplay to make for a unique fighting experience.

Graphics: The graphics are the best of any Mortal Kombat game to date, it is greatly detailed from it's characters to it's arenas. Not to mention MK's infamous blood and gore. The graphics I feel are some of the best out of last years releases.

Sound: The sound is very detailed, you hear every crunch, break, punch, kick and sound from the weapons. When the characters speak, it's very in synch into the game.

Extras: Mortal Kombat has always been a packed fighting game with loads to unlock and some side games along with it (ex. Chess Kombat from Mortal Kombat: Deception.) The tag team makes for a fun new way to play the game as well as loads of unlockables to buy from the returned Krypt. The Challenge Tower has 300 missions and makes for some extra fun but also frustration at the same time with a reward at the end that is ultimately a downer.

Final thoughts: Mortal Kombat is the best game in the 20+ old franchise. The most complete fighting game and the one of the most packed and complete games I've ever played. The only gripe I have is the unrewarding reward at the end of the challenge tower. It is a fairly difficult game ( I bet it on expert difficulty) the story mode is fun, complete and makes sense for new comers as well as a new perspective for long time gamers. I am giving this game a 9.5/10

If you have yet to play this game, I suggest you go play it. You won't be disappointed, if you're not a fan of fighting games then I suggest you give this a try. It is by far the best fighting game ever released.

Its time to give this game series up. Im sick of seeing these guys let alone playing the repetitive crap. It was cool when it was breaking the rules, back in the day with the blood and gore. Now every game has blood and gore so it makes Mortal Kombat just another fighting game thats been run into the f---ing ground.

There are not many fighting games that have blood and gore. Because that is what we are talking about, yes? Fighting Games. Think about the big titles. Street Fighter, MarvelvCapcom, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive, etc. None of those have blood and gore. Or fatalities. Or an actual Story/Campaign to play through (as far as I know).

Mortal Kombat is a little bit more unique than you make it out to be. What it does, it does best. I still have my copy from the day it was released.

@felixxx: Every videogame is repetitive whether you like it or not. Mortal Kombat is repetitive in the gameplay like any other game, but it's everything else that MK brings is what makes the games unique and seperates itself from the rest.

The series is just getting stale in my opinion. It needs a face lift or something else added to the game play that would make it more unique. I liked the xray stuff in the last one, but in the end it was still the same old game. Hopefully some day they will add something that keeps my interest. Im glad it has some die hard fans, i respect that. Way to go guys.
