Last week, we had the good fortune to catch up with legendary voice actor David Kaye to discuss his role as Arishem in Marvel Studios' Eternals. He's taken on countless iconic roles over the years, including Optimus Prime and Megatron in several animated Transformers franchises and Clank in the hit PlayStation and Insomniac franchise Ratchet & Clank

During the course of our interview (which you can watch below), Kaye frequently referred to his time playing Clank, so we wondered whether a return is on the horizon following this year's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. That was a critical and commercial hit, and fans are already eager for more.

"I’m always hopeful. Insomniac, Ted Price, and everyone all the way down have been amazing to me since the very beginning. I’ve had a good time with them and would work with them again in a heartbeat," Kaye told us. "Personally, I’d love the stories to continue. That’s not up to me, of course, but as far as voicing characters and with Megatron in Transformers, people say, ‘You should be in this or that,’ but I’m just honoured I got the chance to inhabit a character like that."

"These are iconic characters who are part of major franchises. In the MCU, to voice Arishem…I’m just honoured to be asked to play and to inhabit a character for that time," he continued. "You are honoured just to inhabit that character and to be given a chance for that time. That’s the business. Things come and go and you be thankful and grateful you had a moment. With [Clank], it’s rare you create a character like that from nothing and he’s still here years later continuing on."

It was then we brought up the 2016 Ratchet & Clank movie, suggesting that a future big screen adaptation could borrow from Sonic the Hedgehog and combine animated characters with live-action actors. Kaye didn't say much about that, but reflected on the experience of making the movie.

"Yeah, I still have the poster down there. I was more blown away by getting my name on a movie poster. There it is," he enthusiastically pointed out. "James Arnold Taylor, David Kaye, and Sylvester Stallone [Laughs]. We were not famous enough to sell the tickets, but we got our names on the movie poster and I’m thrilled about that. It’s another thing that’s pretty cool."

We're keeping our fingers crossed for more Ratchet & Clank in some form, and you'll want to keep your eyes peeled to our sister site, GameFragger.com, for all the latest updates on that series. You can visit David's website here. He's also on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and Cameo.

@MarDCel - agreed. Movie was fun too, but the game was probably better. Have yet to play Rift Apart though

Based on the ending they will definitely be back. I enjoyed Rift Apart but as someone who’s played every console game it was a little lackluster in parts. Nothing bad but there’s a few things like the overall generic weapon design and lack of progression of the story told in Crack in Time and Into the Nexus that when compared to previous games left a bit to be desired imo. That’s having been said if anyone has a PS5 I highly recommend you check it out bc it’s still really good

Also how am I just now finding out that Clank and Arishem are the same person?… That’s actually kind of hilarious given that they are completely opposite ends of the spectrum

@Ha1frican - kinda like how Chris Martinet voices Mario and Paarthunax. Guess thats the power of voice-actors
