July 16th of this year will mark 2 years since the release of Christopher Nolan's "INCEPTION". Not only did the film gross over $800 million dollars worldwide, but it won Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Cinematography.

Now where's that video game Christoper Nolan was planning?

Rumors starting flying back in 2010 about the possibility of an Inception video game. Then in November of 2010, Nolan expressed his intentions to develop said video game. So much so, he was working with "collaborators". We can safely assume Warner Bros. Interactive would hold the publishing rights to such game.

Nolan described the concept as a long-term proposition. And now with "The Dark Knight Rises" finished (except for editing and marketing), I can't help but wonder when.. and IF.. we will see an Inception game.

I have been covering video games for awhile, so I do normally see games in development for 2 years or more. And in Nolan's situation, I could definitely see it. As a film maker, he does not have the time to completely dedicate himself to a video game project.

But as an Inception fan, I would still like something to be announced. At least an announcement that the game is OFFICIALLY in development, with an actual developer. We don't want the game falling into Development Hell.

Inception is, and always has been a standalone film. I've read rumors about sequels, and always doubted their credibility. Nolan most likely will NOT take us back into the Inception world via film. But creating storylines in a video game, and transporting us that way.. that appears to be his plan.

I'm addicted to the concept of Inception. And honestly, I don't care what happens in an Inception game. Just give us an announcement, that the game is actually in development.

Wishful thinking that with E3 2012 today, we'd see an Inception announcement. But I doubt it.

Until we hear more news, we can only dream. Thoughts and ideas on what the Inception game should be like? Sound off.

NOTE: I actually began production (ended it a short while after) on my own Inception-style game awhile back. A browser game like your standard Mafia game, where you fought Projections, took on missions, and tried to stay out of prison (Limbo). I wonder if that would have ever taken off.

It would be an interesting game, but it's not one that I see being feasible any time soon. And there's no way it'd be set after the film, as that'd ruin the ambiguity of the ending. It'd most likely be some kind of prequel, centered around Cobb's early career as an extractor - or perhaps it might take place during his and Mal's time in their own dream world, ending with Mal's death?

The game certainly has potential, but again, I don't see it coming around any time soon.

The world of Inception and it's infinite possibilities show plenty of potential, but we probably won't see it anytime soon.

P.S. Inception is currently my favorite Nolan film and favorite film of all time(until that other film is released in July).

I forgot about this. Maybe after his H. Hughes biopic?

the man will never have time for that unless he gives the project over fully and only works on it more as an advisor . but do agree it would be epic

@3D
In the latest issue of Empire, Nolan more or less stated up front that the Howard Hughes biopic is dead.

Yeah, I don't think it would make a great game either.

Oh, I had no idea. What a shame. Thanks for the heads up.

Initially I thought it was a HORRIBLE idea. But over time, I realized it could work. However, it couldn't be just ANY video game. It would have to be extraordinarily expansive. It wouldn't have to follow Cobb or his team either. Instead, create a complex storyline that spans 50+ hours of gameplay and prepare gamers for TONS of downloadable content (missions, weapons, etc.) and there you go. An Inception Game is nothing more than a James Bond-Uncharted game on Matrix steroids. Add some cool locations, weaponry, chase sequences, stealth missions, and some ridiculous scenarios where gravity and physics (or lack thereof) come into play. That's your Inception game.
