The pre-order details arrived alongside the debut of a new story trailer that revealed more details about the cunning scoundrel Kay Vess and her companion Nix as they "search for an opportunity of a lifetime."

The story of Star Wars Outlaws is set in between the events Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. With the Empire in control of the galaxy, but distracted by the rebellion, it's a golden age for the criminal underworld.

Players take on the role of Kay Vess, "a skilled thief whose antics catch the attention of Sliro, the leader of a new, foreboding criminal syndicate Zerek Besh."

"After Sliro places a bounty on Kay’s head, Kay and Nix are offered their one shot at freedom - pull off one of the greatest heists of all time," the description reads. "Kay and Nix will need to navigate the underworld across the galaxy, building their reputation with legendary criminal organizations including the Pyke Syndicate, the Hutt Cartel, the Ashiga Clan and Crimson Dawn to earn the support they need to finish the job."

While some of these cartels may be familiar, the Ashiga Clan was actually created by game developer Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.

As the first open-world Star Wars game, Kay and Nix will travel across teh galaxy to distinct locations, both iconic and new: Canto Bight, Kijimi, Tatooine, Akiva, and the windswept savannah of Toshara.

"Kay will explore bustling cities and cantinas, race across sprawling outdoor landscapes on her speeder, and pilot her ship the Trailblazer through the wilds of space. When things go awry, the Trailblazer will also help them chase, evade and attack to gain the upper hand in thrilling dogfights with the Empire and other foes," Ubisoft teases.

Experience the first-ever open world Star Wars™ game, set between the events ofThe Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted.

Star Wars Outlaws will be released on August 30 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

This game has no chance. Community Manager was caught with a bunch of anti-white comments. Hope this bombs. These people need to be removed from society.

@AvalonX - sadly thats not how society works.

Had these comments be made about black people we'd completely ostracize them. But because it's about white people it's apparently totally fine. Hell, people will probably come to their defense saying you can't be racist against white people.

Ok, we gotta as a community agree to not get pre orders for games anymore. The industry has become too willing to give half finished games because we keep buying these games before anyone can have a chance to play the game. We need to stand strong.

@Origame - I don't think I've pre-ordered a game since GTA 5. Back when I actually went into a Gamestop. Yeah kids, we used to have to go to a building to buy games.

@DarthOmega - I remember getting skyrim opening day at the gamestop near my college. Those were the days.

They even had the manuals in the case back then. And a poster featuring a full map of skyrim.

Now if you can even bother using the internet to buy a physical copy instead of just downloading straight to your console, you'd be lucky to get something in there trying to sell you sh!t.

Doesn't look all that great. I hope it at least has more replay value than the Jedi games. Fallen Order and Survivor were not bad, but pretty much one and done for me.

The moment you sell a game with a Season Pass it's an instant no from me. Tired of paying $100 for a game that is plagued with bugs and unplayable moments because the devs are focused on the DLC and not the core game.

@SonOfAGif - yeah, it's such an odd thing to do. The only games with season passes and longevity, have it earned. Can't think of a game with a seasonal model that has stayed around for long
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 4/10/2024, 8:35 AM
@bkmeijer1 - On one side, I get it. The studio may not be releasing another AAA game for a few years and need a form of revenue. But when the entire identity of a game because Micro transactions and season passes, I immediately lose interest. Because you are charging us full price for the game plus the price for the DLC season pass. On top of that if the game has unplayable glitches, It takes weeks or months to see a patch.

@SonOfAGif - think a dlc or two, like with Alan Wake 2, the studio still has revenue as well. Season passes just come off as lazy imo, although Destiny 2 for example handles it well enough.

As for games taking longer and longer to produce, I wouldn't mind a step down. I rather get a couple of double-A games like Helldivers anyway. Bigger isn't always better, even if it's spread out with a season pass.
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 4/10/2024, 10:43 AM
@bkmeijer1 - Agreed. I don't mind games like Outlast. Some AAA games like Anthem show why they don't always make sense financially
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 4/10/2024, 11:50 AM
@SonOfAGif - agreed. And the same with those games that take a few hundred millions and half a decade to make. They are great, but I can't see that be sustainable in the long run. Think the Saber Interactive CEO said something similar too

Maybe just the youtube compression, but imo the graphics in the new trailer look a little wonky… specifically the main leads face and hair.

Think it looks the story and the graphics look decent, but I'm most interested in the open world. If done right, it could be a lot of fun. Especially with the lore.

Just hope the hubs aren't limited in movement on the ground and in the air/space. Just no landing animations, collecting collectibles and viewing point please.

Nope, no thank you. Apart from the community manager being a racist, there's the whole season pass nonsense, and then this doesn't even feel like a Star Wars game. Just a generic game set in outer space.
