I remember back in early 2006 when Marvel Ultimate Alliance was announced for release later that year. I was in 6th grade at the time and was HUGE into comics (which I still am). I saw the trailers for MUA and got more hyped than I did for the new Justice League game that also came out the same year. When Christmas Day came and I received Ultimate Alliance I didn't stop playing it for a solid 7 months. The disc didn't leave my original Xbox....like ever. Marvel Ultimate Alliance was a masterpiece.

The game not only introduced me to characters like Deadpool and Luke Cage, it broadened the horizons of the Marvel Universe, and I was able to play through all of it! Then Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 came out in 2009 and I was even MORE hooked. Adapting the Civil War storyline while maintaining the same level of gameplay as the first installation made MUA 2 all the better, which made the lack of announcement for a third game even more surprising. For 7 years, Ultimate Alliance 3 was no where to be found. I started losing hope that it would ever be made. Technically...it still hasn't been announced. But honestly after hearing this news, I couldn't care less.

During San Diego Comic Con, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 were both confirmed for release on PS4, PC, and Xbox One by executive producer Mike Jones. The graphics and interface will have slight updates; according to Jones, the team wanted to "...be as faithful to the original Marvel Ultimate Alliance games as possible - the definitive versions...they play really smooth". So for those expecting a complete overhaul and remaster, you may be out of luck.

When asked if the re-release of the MUA games was the beginning of a new franchise, Jones said, "Following the footsteps of a proud Marvel tradition, I'll say: Anything is possible, true believers!"

The PC and PS4 versions released on July 26th, while the Xbox One version will be available July 28th. The retail cost for each is $39.99, however Activision has bundled both games for $60. There isn't information on whether or not the games will include DLC, but at these prices I really hope they do!

So what do you think of Marvel Ultimate Alliance coming to next gen consoles? Excited? Angry? Neutral? Sound off in the comments below!
