There's certainly no shortage of mobile games based on Marvel's incredible universe of super heroes and villains. But surprisingly, we've yet to have one that capitalizes on the popular digital card collecting and battling genre. That will change later this month with the release of
Marvel Battle Lines.
Developed by Nexon in collaboration with Marvel, the upcoming free-to-play game sees you collect digital cards of your favorite Marvel characters and assemble a team (aka build a deck) that you can bring into combat in either the single-player missions or player-vs-player matches.
The exact number of characters available in the game at launch has not been specified, but concept art seems to suggest the roster will be fairly robust and include a mix of both popular and lesser-known characters. Some of the characters already confirmed include Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Blade, Captain America, Hawkeye, Yondu, Quake, Rhino, Thanos, and many more.
While
Marvel Battle Lines will give Disney a foothold in the popular digital card game market, it embraces an innovative approach to the card battling genre. Matches are played through a dynamic 3x4 gameboard in which players must damage the opponent by creating combinations of battle lines with their characters. A gameplay video showcases the unique combat mechanic along with the game's impressive visuals and art style.
The goal of a match is to strategically place cards in consecutive order on the 3×4 grid that makes up the field of play to create powerful battle lines and combinations that will damage their opponent’s health meter. Players will begin each turn with four cards in their hand and have the ability to swap their cards, play an action card or end their turn by either placing a character card in the field of play or moving a card already deployed to an adjacent tile to attack an opponent’s card. The first player to bring their opponent’s health meter to zero using combinations of battle lines with their deck of characters – three across, three adjacent, four down, an L-shape, etc. – will win the match.
Marvel Battle Lines launches October 24 for free on iOS and Android. You can pre-register today to receive an exclusive Doctor Strange Super Hero card and 5,000 in-game gold.
