It looks like New Line's Mortal Kombat reboot has found its next fighter.

According to Variety, Chinese-Canadian actor Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) is in talks for the role of heroic warrior Liu Kang. Should he sign on for the project, he'll join The Raid's Joe Taslim as Sub Zero.

Lin recently starred as martial arts expert Lance in the "Striking Vipers" episode of Black Mirror, and his impresive performance may well have brought him to the attention of first-time director Simon McQuoid. He also had a supporting role in producer James Wan's Aquaman.

Plot details on the new movie remain a mystery for now, but it's assumed that it'll follow the basic premise of the original video game: a group of warriors assemble to compete in a tournament to protect the Earth from the demonic forces of Outworld.

Mortal Kombat is set to commence production in South Australia later this year.

@knocturnalzen10 - Seems like solid casting. Nothing to go crazy about.

My pic for Liu Kang was Bruce Khan. I get they may want to go Chinese with Kang though.

@BlackBeltJones -

I've been meaning to check out Revenger, especially as the trailer looked interesting but mainly because Bruce Khan looks to be in amazing shape.

Have you seen it?

@SimplyAz - I have. Its pretty good. Khan is amazing. Its no Raid but its like Headshot if you've seen that.

There's a few fights that are damn good in it. I also recommend this

Oh cool dude, will try and watch Revenger soon.

You're the second person to recommend Jailbreak, somebody mentioned it on a Facebook group the other day, the trailer looks action packed.

Does Liu still turn into a dragon in the newer versions? Can I hope to get a little dragon? Or you think it should be a little more grounded?

@IronGenesis - I'd personally prefer a little more grounded but... Then that leaves out fireballs which I also want

@IronGenesis - Maybe just making a fire dragon could work better, rather than full on transform into one.

He was the best part of the original movies.

Would love to see him cast as Raiden.

That’s a great choice. I thought this movie was supposed to revolve around characters other than the main core of Mortal Kombat history. I hope that changed and I didn’t hear about it. Very much looking forward to this movie. So much potential.

This is shaping up to have an interesting cast, looking forward to more of the casting, although Joe Talsim will take some topping for me, especially since Warrior was the best new show of 2019 for me.

I used to play the original Mortal Kombat on my cousin's PC back in the heady times of early nineties.
