Constantin Films is currently developing two feature-length movies based on Capcom's video game franchise - the Paul W. S. Anderson-helmed Monster Hunter and the reboot of the Resident Evil film series, that is expected to start production in 2019 with a brand new cast. Recently, it was revealed that the flick has found its director in Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night).

James Wan (The Conjuring, Aquaman) was previously said to be in charge of producing Roberts' upcoming Resident Evil movie. According to Bloody Disgusting, that is no longer the case, as Wan and his Atomic Monster Productions have officially parted ways with Constantin Films. “I’m not doing that anymore,” Wan said during a recent interview with the website. “That has been dropped.”

They announce that I’m attached to a lot of stuff and a lot of them are not necessarily real,” Wan continued. “It’s kind of annoying when things come and go, or things never came in the first place. I hate it when my projects get announced. It makes it seem like I’m attached to a lot of things when in fact I’m not necessarily doing so many things. A lot of my stuff just get announced and I don’t want them to be announced but people love to announce them.”

It’s the journalists that want to announce stuff,” Wan concluded. Resident Evil's first draft was written by Greg Russo, who's also scripting another upcoming video game adaptation, the Mortal Kombat reboot for New Line Cinema. As revealed by Russo, his version of the reboot is heavily inspired by Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, the latest installment in Capcom’s acclaimed horror video game series.

Aquaman to be me was weird... idk there were some REALLY strong points especially the action and visuals but the shit is so overstuffed with being corny and wanting to be so many things and at the same time wanting to be took serious. The songs that would play were so damn stupid, and there were times during dramatic scenes that I was laughing at. But at the same time I really enjoyed myself when shit was good.

Even though by technical standards I would call this the better film, Venom to me took this approach of being ridiculous and fun and funny a lot better. Mamoa and Heard should not have more than 5 seconds alone on camera cause Jesus Christ. I literally fell asleep because I was so bored of their chemistry and really just wanted to see the Atlantis scenes (which along with the fights were the biggest highlights). Don’t get me wrong there’s a lot more that’s great and I loved that I was expecting, but the negatives are more jarring and prevalent than they should be.

I’d give this a solid 6 maybe a light 7, cause I know I’m getting this on Blu Ray for the fights and visuals alone. Black Manta and Orm were also the highlights. Loved when they were on screen especially Manta, but I wish his arc was dedicated to a whole film instead of kind of being shoved in this one. Idk how he does it but even with the corny lines, Patrick Wilson is so damn good and convincing as [frick] as Orm that I honestly wish he was the main character. Might watch it again

Oh yeah the score was [frick]ing badass, needed a lot more of that and less of the stupid songs

Give me the REAL Jill Valentine, and quit making these based on the later entries in the franchise (if at all).

Okay I really enjoyed Aquaman

“For all its wild spectacle and cartoon cleverness, this is a quietly subversive movie, and an evolutionary step forward for the genre.”

This was the quote from review from RogerEbert.com

That is a very nice compliment. I’m not sure I totally saw that, unless the reviewer is strongly moved by the climax and resolution to the Orm/Arthur conflict.

Because I felt THAT was something CBM have needed for a long time.

@IronGenesis - Agree! I felt as though Wan did not hold back. IMO we got a true CBM ripped from the pages of a comicbook with not apologies.

That is how I always get frustrated with the Batman movies, I really want a Batman movie that represents the mythical side of Batman's villains...instead most of the movies are grounded.

@JoeMomma29 - I'd just like to go two Batman movies without seeing his parents killed.

@Reeds2Much - I dont mind when origin stories retread those kinda things for the sake of creating a self contained story. Yeah we nerds and most of the world has seen that story before and dont need it explained, but for the kid who has never seen the older Spiderman movies, he has no clue why Peter Parker is who he is in Civil War and the MCU at large without watching other things. It's a minor thing to add into a story for the sake of telling a self contained story with factoids a-z in one sitting. So long as his parents death aren't a chunk of the movie, I dont see it as being unnecessary.

(And I used that Spiderman example because it happened with me and my nephew. He doesn't get comic book related stuff from his mom who raises him so I introduced him to the MCU and when it came to Spiderman in Civil War he had a lot of questions and I had to actually pause the movie to explain his whole history for a good several minutes. He knew of Spiderman but not his origin, and he thought it was dumb the MCU didnt give him an origin story like everyone else. His words not mine, but I agree)

Come to think of it, Wan would be perfect to direct RE. RE4 - 6 specifically remind me of a Wan movie.

wasn't their inexplicably like 8 of these movies to begin with? and the last one just coming out maybe 2 years ago?? hell they make all the Spiderman makers look lazy. This surely is the very last thing in Hollywood that needs to be rebooted.

God damn, a Wan DIRECTED Resident Evil would be the absolute best.

Forget about producing.

Having just seen Aquaman, all I can say is that I [frick]ing loved it. It's an 8.5/10 movie for me. There are a few story issues I had and few cheesy scenes. But it's so damn good and fun, and engaging and just a blast that it didn't detract from my experience enough for me to give it any less than an 8.
