More From Mark Millar On His Role At Fox; Says THE WOLVERINE Is Their Starting Off Point

Earlier today we got some comments from Mark Millar about his his new role as Fox Marvel Movie Consultant. During another interview, Millar commented more on his role, and said that The Wolverine will be Fox's starting off point much like Iron Man was for Marvel.

Mark Millar is on a roll right now. First off, he has got his own successful movie franchises, including Kick-Ass 2, that he is getting off the ground, as well as helping Fox Studios do something with their Marvel properties. Earlier this morning he commented on how he is working on bringing Fox's Marvel character together in what is being described as a cohesive universe, but didn't want to make a mess out of the situation, with characters just showing up randomly in each others films. While it's not a total surprise Fox's venture towards a shared universe will happen with next year's The Wolverine. Millar hasn't worked much on The Wolverine, but said he has read the script and sees it as the same opportunity that Marvel did with Iron Man. "I felt like 'Iron Man' was really the beginning of something for the Marvel Studios movies, and 'The Wolverine' will be a similar starting point to build a lot off of for the Fox movies," Millar explained. There has already been rumors that Famke Janssen has filmed a scene for The Wolverine as Jean Grey.

Millar also talked about Matthew Vaughn leaving X-Men Days of Future Past. It has been said by Millar that Vaughn dropped Days of Future Past to work on the movie adaptation of Millar's Secret Service. Bryan Singer will step in and fill the void left behind by Vaughn, and Millar is thrilled. "When Matthew decided he wasn't going to do the sequel, they just switched places with Matthew producing and Bryan coming on to direct. That's got nothing to do with me, but I'm delighted that Bryan and I will get to work together over the next few years," said Millar. He went on to say the he is also excited to work with Josh Trank on the new Fantastic Four reboot, and that he has a lot of fun and exciting ideas for the rest of the characters that Fox has the rights to.

You can check out the rest of the interview by heading on over to Comic Book Resources where Millar talks about X-Men movie potential, his Millar World movies, and his comic book ventures. For the latest on all Fox Marvel movies make sure to check back here at CBM.

When Marvel/Disney gets the rights back, I want to see an adaptation of the ENEMY OF THE STATE storyline (by Mark Millar) WITH THE COSTUME.

Why is it that I feel we should take Millar's pronouncements on a Fox Comic Universe with a grain of salt? His role seems to be every bit as much the spokesperson/PR guy as it does creative consultation.

Whatever. Whoever develops Fantastic Four needs to go super intelligent with the script and enhance the scientific angle. Ignore the usual pitfall of dumbing down for the audience.

I know it has been said but i will say it again! IF DISNEY HAS THE POCKETS TO BUY LUCAS LTD THAN THEY CAN BUY BACK MARVEL CHARECTERS YOU THINK FOX WOULD NOT MIND HAVING 1400.000.000 ON THEYR BANK ACOUNTS COME ON NOW! IF DISNEY TRULY WANTS TO INVEST IN MARVEL THAN THEY SHOULD BUY THE HOLE LOT!!!

Didn't Millar say a few days ago that he and Vaughn decided that Vaughn should so Secret Service instead of DOFP because they didn't want anyone stealing their lame idea? Now he's contradicting himself.

"... People keep saying that they want to see all of the Marvel Universe in one place, but what I try to explain to them is that if Marvel Studios had the rights to all the stuff set up at other studios, they wouldn't have the money to make all the other movies they're making. You wouldn't be getting 'Guardians of the Galaxy' or 'Ant-Man' because those slots would be filled up with a Wolverine movie or a Fantastic Four movie. There's only a finite amount of movies they can make."

The best we can hope for, then, is that they may collaborate with Disney/Marvel somewhere along the line, although I wouldn't hold my breath.

I just love it when people compare upcoming cbm to TDK or IM. Those are the ones that usually fall flat.smh Anyway, I will wait for a trailer for The Wolverine.

I want this to fail so badly, but then when Marvel do get the rights back the properties could be damaged in the public eye and not be as attractive. I also want to see a freaking awesome Wolverine movie

so if the wolverine is gonna be fox's answer to iron man as the start point of a shared universe.so x-men days of future past will have nothing to do with the previous x-men films.

Millar just stikes me as full of shit on so many levels. He can write some good stuff, but overall he's hit and miss. The carny barker/PR guy thing is getting both old and annoying.

I'm sorry, but based on FOX's track record with their Marvel adaptations I really could care less about a "cohesive" FOX cenematic universe. As much as I liked X2 and XMFC I would be willing to see it all tossed to the wind in favor of a Marvel buy-back or the chacters followed by a solid reboot.

Hugh Jackman is too old to begin this shared universe now..........I say just get Hugh and Andrew in Avengers 2. That would be an awesome movie

Will people stop saying they want Disney to buy Fox? They have Marvel Studios, that should be enough. Plus if Disney bought Fox Marvel there definitely won't be a rated R Deadpool, or DareDevil, or Punisher...plus they have Mark Millar as their creative consultant; yeah I don't think Disney is going to buy Fox Marvel for a while now.
StarkAnthony
StarkAnthony - 11/9/2012, 8:21 AM
Well this doesn't make any sense at all. If they wanted to start a cohesive universe they should have either rebooted the xmen or started with Fantastic Four. Where does Days of Future Past fit in? Why try to connect future movies to the bloated X-men franchise? Come on Fox, get it together

Other than that his stories are different, and he has a major positive influence on comics, and movies today no matter what the haters say.

@MARVELPSYCHO79 - Got to agree Jamie Foxx is a great actor but i'm trying to see him as Electro as well, but i'll wait and pass judgement when I see what he looks like and a trailer. I still think he would have made the best Rhodey.

Exciting interview.

and you guys missed a clever quote:

"I think there's a great foundation, and just from basic conversations, we've come up with ten movies we could do."

they have discussed 10 POSSIBLE MOVIES!! have u read it right?... 10 movies!! lol

this should have been included on this article, lol

Fox clearly has a big plan now.

I'm sick hearing about shared universes just because it works with one set of films doesn't mean it's going to work on every. Wolverine and FF icouldn't think of anything worse that I would watch, maybe wolverine or DD. Some originality please.

At the least I would like to see some of the characters that were badly handled/miscast like Rogue/Gambit/Deadpool, given fresh starts with new actors.

In an ideal world Marvel would have never had to sell their rights to certain characters but that is what happened. Lets stop this revisionist bullshit with some people now going as far to say both bryan singers xmen films were shit as well as sony's spiderman films. Xmen, X2, Spiderman 1 and 2 and Amazing spiderman would be ahead of Thor, Cap, Ironman 2 and The incredible Hulk in a best of list. Perhaps Spiderman 2 could even be ahead of the first Ironman. Granted The Avengers is the pinnacle imo, its doesnt change the fact that Marvel hasnt had a perfect track record. Phase 2 sounds brilliant but fox also seem to be getting thier act together recently. Lets not forget how successful fox and sony have been. Are crossovers all you want, do you only read comics with guest appearances or Justice league and Avengers titles?

I may not be liked for this but I don't want Marvel to get X-Men back. I couldn't care less if they ever did. However, I do want Marvel to get Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man back. Ghost Rider I don't care about even though I imagine they are coming back soon lol.

As for X-Men, I just idk I just don't care about them anymore. I guess after everyone said x1,2 and first class were good I was like they sucked. I just couldn't understand why was so much focus on wolvie. It's like they went out of their way to make cyke hated (thing is I can't stand cyke, but they went overboard with making us hate him) I also don't see them fitting in the MCU.

Now fantastic four...Marvel needs their cosmic villains and reed as for spidey...he just needs to be back.

Dear Fox ,
I am a fan of comic book movies ad have been , since the first time I saw Tim Burton"s Batman in the 80's . I love nothing more then seeing my favorite superheros on the screen. This was very true till you started raping my favorite heroes and villians in your movies. Everything from the fart cloud Galatcus to a Mouthless Deadpool. Please just stop FoX and give the rights back to Marvel. I dont know if you noticed , but they are doing better with less known heroes then your doing with major ones. Let them have them back so we can actually see a good Xmen (and others) movie.

Sincerly ,

Theres no hurry getting the rights back. The films reeased were fine before Marvel studios came along now they're seen as shit. In the comics these character all have their little corner even though they're allin the ame city, the ff in particular rarely join in when it comes to events why should it matter that they're not mcu. Spiderman would be nice as him and daredevil have a good banter and he can look up to stark but xmen dont need avengers and visa versa. We could prbably get the most faithful adaptations ever but because thor didnt fly past in the background they'd be seen as flops.
