It seems the events of X-Men: Days Of Future Past have allowed Fox to use the character of Wolverine in two separate movie timelines. We know that X-Men: Apocalypse will focus on the younger versions of Xavier, Magneto, Mystique and co., but if Patrick Stewart's comments are anything to go by, James Mangold's follow up to The Wolverine will find the older version of Professor Charles Xavier teaming up with Logan. During a press junket for Neill Blomkamp's Chappie, JoBlo quizzed Hugh Jackman about Stewart's recent revelations, and although he doesn't outright confirm things, from his comments I'd say it's safe to assume we're looking at a Wolvie/Xavier double act! Jackman also suggests that he's looking forward to exploring the "important" relationship between the characters.
"I'm not going to deny it. I've learned over the years to try and put my best poker face on. By the way, play poker with me if you want to win some money, because I'm terrible. But, I've always seen it as a really important relationship, and we started with that and I think it's a really important one. I think it would be really great to see it in the Wolverine movie, because we haven't really explored it in the standalone Wolverine movies. So it's not not not not not going to happen."
The prospect is definitely an interesting one, but what story could the movie follow? Because Jackman has expressed his fondness for the comic, there's speculation that we might be in for a loose adaptation of Mark Millar's Old Man Logan with Xavier standing in for Hawkeye, but I think a brand new story with plot points borrowed from various arcs over the years is likeliest.
