James Mangold to Direct The Wolverine?

According to Deadline, not only has Fox narrowed its search for a director for the Wolverine sequel, but according to the site the film will begin shooting this fall.

The director being talked to is James Mangold, whose previous credits include the Johnny Cash bio-pic Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma and, most recently, Knight and Day, which starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.

Deadline is saying that negotiations are only just starting, but that it is looking like Mangold will be stepping in for the departed Darren Aronofsky. The script, as was the case previously, is written by Christopher McQuarrie and the majority of the film is expected to be shot on location in Japan.
