As an overall, I really enjoyed the movie. I can understand why many fan-boys will be disappointed with the changes that have been made to the Origins story. Having said that, the main focus is still there, and we all know, it depends on who the comic writer is, as to what the Origins story says about wolverines past. Movie making is no different – if the story didn’t have some changes to it, it would be predictable, have no creativity and end up being a piece of shit (like Watchmen – sorry to anyone that liked it). I really liked the writer’s interpretation of Wolverine and Saber-tooth’s interaction, as well as that of Striker, and even Silver-foxes role in the movie fit well. But I do think making Silver-fox and Emma Frost sisters was a very amateur and stupid move on the part of the writers, producers and director
My one criticism for the movie is the attempt to include too many new big name characters. I would have thought that the movie makers would have learned their lesson after X3. By putting in too many big name characters they weren’t allowing enough air-time to explain each of them properly. By using lesser known or more obscure characters, they could do whatever they wanted with them and you wouldn’t get the fan backlash that this movie (and X3) has tended to attract.
There has also been a lot of hate going around about the Wade Wilson / Dead-pool / Weapon XI story, and I have to agree. While I don’t have a problem with the Weapon XI idea, I think this story arc was not suited to Dead-pool. They would have been better of using Mimic/Calvin Rankin or Synch/Everett Thomas and explain that Stryker found a way to make their ability to duplicate mutant powers permanent.
Overall, a good movie, that I undoubtedly with see at least once more at the movies and then buy once it is released to DVD.
