Will An Adaptation Of This Iconic Comic Book Story Be The X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Sequel?
According to a new report, the next instalment in the X-Men franchise will take another crack at a storyline completely f***ed up by X-Men: The Last Stand. Is it the one you're thinking of though?
According to Heroic Hollywood, the X-Men: Apocalypse sequel is going to redo "The Dark Phoenix Saga." Brett Ratner took a crack at that (and the cure subplot from Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run) in X-Men: The Last Stand and dropped the ball in a major way, and seeing as it was Bryan Singer who set the stage for that at the end of X2, you can understand why he's keen to put his own stamp on that. Is it too soon though? After all, we're only going to meet Sophie Turner's Jean Grey for the first time next month, but who the hell cares? Seeing this iconic storyline done properly - especially if it takes us into outer spacer and really does the comic book justice - would be nothing short of epic, and it's unlikely they'd retread old ground by killing Jean again so that wouldn't be a major concern.
This is obviously just a rumour for now, and it could be a movie we have to wait a few years for what with Singer now preparing to start work on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. However, both he and Kinberg have expressed interest in redoing "The Dark Phoenix Saga" in the past, so I'm thinking this is legit. Regardless, more details cans be found at around the 20:00 mark in the video below.
