Zack Snyder's uber macho hard-R adaptation of Frank Miller's eponymous graphic novel 300 was the sleeper hit of 2007, turning a gritty midbudget action fantasy film into a wildly profitable global blockbuster that made him an instant superstar director. The then-unknown Gerard Butler, playing ruthless Spartan warrior king Leonidas in an above-the-title star billing role, achieved iconic status due to his testosterone-fuelled alpha male performance, killer one-liners and shockingly violent actions scenes where he brutally decapitated and dismembered enemy soldiers.
Building on 300's success, Snyder would go on to helm not just Alan Moore's famed Watchmen but also become the architect of Warner Brother's DCEU. But 300 is undoubtedly the film that gave Snyder essentially a lifetime pass to make any films he wants.
Snyder's masterpiece has been available on Blu-Ray since its 2007 release but to many fans' dismay never made its debut on the higher resolution 4K UHD format before even though his newer films are already available.
This changes now as with a release date of October 6th, 2020, the movie has become available for pre-order and we have a first look at the brand new cover art as well as a motion poster shared by Snyder. Extra features include deleted scenes, director's commentary from Snyder, production webisodes, and documentary material about the real-life Spartans.
