In an interview with Hero Complex, popular comic writer Frank Miller was questioned on his prequel to the hit comic and movie 300, Xerxes

On the plot of Xerxes:

"The time frame begins 10 years before 300 and the story starts with the Battle of Marathon, which was killer to draw, by the way, even if it was a lot of work. The lead character is Themistocles, who became warlord of Greece and built their navy. The story is very different than 300 in that it involves Xerxes' search for godhood. The existence of gods are presupposed in this story and the idea is that he well on his way to godhood by the end of the story," said Miller.

On the Zack Synder helmed adaption of Xerxes:

"I don’t do a comic book thinking there is a movie. I just want it to be as good a comic book as it can be. It’s up to Zack and company to make it work as a film," said Miller.

Miller also went on to confirm that Leonidas, who was portrayed by Gerard Butler in 300, will cameo by having a debate with the main character Themistocles and that some events following 300 will be featured in the comic. Neither the comic or the movie have a release date.

wasn't it supposed to come out this spring? anyway, i am really interested in it. 300 is epic, let's hope for something equally fantastic. i hope his art has improved though, since the variants in all star batman which were kinda awful. i want him to return to his sin city and daredevil glorious days as long as art is concerned. he is one of my favorite writers (if not THE absolute favorite).

Don't get me wrong, Miller has done some great stuff but DKSA sucked in comparison to DKR. I fear this will be the same.

I still don't get why people say DKSA sucked...I thought it was awesome, not nearly as awesome as DKR, but still awesome.

I'm a sucker for those possible-future storylines in comics though.

On-topic though, I can't wait for the comic and the movie. 300 was awesome.

I sort of liked 300 but if it had no slow-mo, the film would be 20 mins long

Assuming Snyder gets the film after he screws up Man of Steel. Ridley Scott should direct Xerxes.

And for the record, in my opinion, Dark Knight Returns AND Dark Knight Strikes Again both sucked, big time. Worst Birthday presents I ever got.

This has been reported and posted ages ago. If you look at the date in the Hero Complex article, it's from the 1st of June.

Frank Miller was DA MAN, once, but he basically sucks now-a-days. Yes, Batman: Year 1 was great, The Dark Knight Returns was great, and Dardevil from the same era was great, Sin City... great, but anything in the past 15 years has sucked. The Dark Knight Strikes Again was utter rubbish, and All Star Batman is a sad joke. He hung around a movie set, and thought he was a director, so he wrote and directed The Spirit, which I think caused cancer in small puppies. I loved 300 (book and movie), and to possibly believe he is not eyeing the idea of a movie as he writes this is hard to believe. This man fell under the curse of starting to believe his own hype, and thinks he can do no wrong while being 'creative', but if you look at his entire body of work, his last half basically sucks.

Whats sticking in my mind is this... If Leonidas cameos in the comic book, certainly Butler will cameo in the movie, but are they going to get him to train and get into shredded beast mode for a 5 minute cameo like they did for his own movie ? Not likely, no actor would agree to that, they'll probably have to finally bite the bullet and put some clothes on him.
