Will Lena and Gerard return for the prequel?
“It’s a different story," he said. "[However] there’s a small part for Lena [Headey]. There’s a small part for Gerry [Butler].”
What type of cast we can expect?
“When you make a period movie like that, it’s great not to know the actors. For me, as an audience, it always brings me into the movie more. You can’t see Tom Cruise in a historical movie. You go, ‘That’s Tom Cruise!’”
“That was everybody not believing that that movie would be successful that allowed us to cast those actors. We went and tried to get all these stars in it and nobody believed in the movie, we didn’t have all the money to pay anybody so we had to cast all these unknowns.”
What worked so well for the first film?
“The cool thing about 300 was that our point-of-view going into that movie was we don’t have to be historically accurate and we created an incredible amount of freedom in telling a war story.”
The film will be based on Frank Miller's upcoming comic book, and is rumored to begin ten years prior to the events in the movie,
300. It supposedly will tell the story of Xerxes, and his rise of power in Persia.
While it is disappointing that Lena and Gerard would only have small roles in the film, it would be nice to have them in the movie to show some sort of connection.
Naom Murro will be taking over the directing duties from Zack Snyder. He doesn't have much of a resume, but did direct the comedy
Smart People that received mixed reviews. He actually is best known for his live-action marketing campaign for the Halo video game.
Personally I expect this movie to follow the same formula of that original, and it will surely fail. Part of what made that first film work was that Zack Snyder provided a stunning display of visuals. Most viewers were blinded to the poor dialogue and just marveled at the intense and brilliant imagery Zack provided. Naom is going to have to show off some amazing skills if he plans to churn out anything as successful as
300.
