According to his twitter feed, Geoff Johns is not ready to give up on and is apparently working on The Sandman with Neil Gaiman.

Correction to world: The Sandman is AWAKE! :) Psyched to be working with @neilhimself on developing one of the greatest series ever!

Added Johns:

Sandman in any form - comics to live action - doesn't work without @neilhimself #sandman

Doesn't sound like it will be anytime soon but it sounds like they are still working on it.

heres something Geoff Johns stop talking and do more action.

DC needs to buck-up and start making their DC character come to live on screen.

I don't know how they will adapt something as abstract as Sandman and keep the mainstream audiences interest.

Remember this story?

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/joshw24/news/?a=26288

"There's some great stuff in development right now that's based on one of the best comics Vertigo has published that I can't wait for people to hear about. It’s one of my favorite comic series ever printed."

In the article he called it one of the best comics Vertigo has ever published, and in his tweet he calls Sandman one f the greatest series ever.So I guess this is what he was referring to.

They got a pilot order for Wonder Woman, so I don't doubt they could also get one for Sandman.

@Weedbeater: I Always thought that a TV series based on Sandman Mystery Theatre would be relatively easy to develop, why aren't doing it?
Perhaps it will come out as a spin-off to The Sandman...

yeah a Sandman Mystery Theatre wouldn't have a huge budget except for costumes and weapons and even those are relatively cheap. Plus, the story is nice and complex with real character development. I don't know why they aren't doing it, but then again i'd rather see a movie out of that.

I've been waiting for this for so long... I doubt it could ever live up to my expectations. I love everything Gaiman, and especially Sandman.

This has me excited, as long as Neil is involved/writing. Gaiman has a golden touch and his stories are fantastic.
