Hobbs and Shaw, Universal’s Fast and Furious spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, may have found its villain. According to Variety, Idris Elba is in final negotiations to play the film’s main villain going up against special agent Luke Hobbs and criminal mastermind Deckard Shaw.

We don’t have specific character details for Elba’s character, but the actor is no stranger to playing the villain. Elba previously played the villain Krall in 2016’s Star Trek Beyond and also voiced Shere Khan in Jon Favreau’s adaptation of The Jungle Book. Elba is also coming off a very busy 2017 where he had roles in The Dark Tower, Molly’s Game, Thor: Ragnarok, and The Mountain Between Us. Dwayne Johnson took a moment to welcome Idris Elba to the cast of the action blockbuster.

Reports of Elba’s casting follows news that Vanessa Kirby - from Netflix’s The Crown - has also joined the cast. She will reportedly play an MI-5 agent and Shaw’s sister.

Production on Hobbs and Shaw is expected to begin this fall with Deadpool 2 director David Leitch at the helm. The script was penned by Fast and Furious franchise writer Chris Morgan. Hobbs and Shaw hits theaters July 26, 2019. In the meantime, let us know what you think of Elba as the villain.

@DarkArrow19 - I only saw part of 8, but what nationality was Charlize Theron's character?

I'm guessing not having an American as a villain allows them to set the locations out of the US.

As an action movie junkie, I am excited for this now. The Rock and The Stath vs Elba, almost dream casting for a movie.

Have to say that Shaw and Hobbs had some good chemistry and enjoyed their interaction.

Surely we can fit in Scott Adkins somewhere as well.

@SimplyAz - it would be pretty legendary if the rock took on Elba and Adkins took on Stath. That’s what I’d call a popcorn flick

@SimplyAz - and in reality, I wouldn’t mind a Idris Rock fight scene similar to Thanos fighting Hulk in IW. With Idris being a quick trained Thanos fighter lol

@DarkArrow19 -

It would just be orgasmic. Still waiting for my dream TV show where The Stath and Adkins team up and fight crime on a weekly basis.

Would be awesome. Remember Idris has some fighting experience from his show Idris Elba: Fighter, which I loved.

@SimplyAz - yeah he wasn’t too bad looking for only training for a year. I hope they utilize this side of him in the film and nothing against Rocky but i enjoy seeing him get his ass handed to him for the first fight lol

I hope Elba gets totally ripped and beats the livin sh!t out of them both. Not gonna happen cause the Rock has that 'never lose a fight' clause in his contracts. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of all three of these actors, I'd just like to see Rock get a beat down for once.
