The mag has released the 50 movies they feel are the most fan-blasted around. Along with Indy's most recent outing there are another few CBMs in the top 10, and a LOT more scattered about the 50!..

As you will see by flicking through the list, there are a lot of movies on there that aren't actually bad - in fact there are a few great ones! But fanboy gripes, astronomical expectations or just plain overkill seems to have relegated a few to Total Film's 50 most hated. Of course many deserve to be on there too. Topping the list is the undeniably disappointing, but perhaps not quite as bad as you might think, Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. Among the top 10 we also have the second Transformers, Joel Schumacher's abomination, The Phantom Menace and the Bond flick Die Another Day. You definitely won't dislike all of the movies mentioned, but it's hard to argue that a lot of people out there just don't like em!..

I liek that you don't even mention what we all know, ror. The unmentionable. Great find. I personally would have placed Transformers 2 at the top of the list followed by the first GI Joe movie.

I've never heard of anyone hating Forrest Gump. I really did hate Die Another Day and Transformers 2 though. I fell asleep during Indie 4 and The Phantom Menace was meant for 5 year olds.

Gump and Titanic have a LOT of haters. I think it's because of over-saturation and that they are so highly praised..while being, lets admit, not expertly crafted movie by any stretch of the imagination! I would say the schmaltz factor plays in to it too. I don't hate either of them, but I don't particularly like either of them that much either. Did when I was a nipper though.

I thought Crystal Skull was decent. Not near as good as the first three films, but I thought it was entertaining enough.
I would've put Batman & Robin and Catwoman at the very top. And Twilight of course.

Here is what they say about those two..

Why It Was Hated: The trivialisation of a major real-life disaster via cardboard characters, dodgy stereotypes and a manipulative central romance that asks us to care for Kate and Leo while hundreds of extras fall to their icy deaths.

Typical Online Review: "The problem with "Titanic" is that it's hideous incompetency cloaked in legitimacy. It looks good, crisp, exact, precise - just like all movies do these days. But the disgustingly bad characters and manipulative quality ruin everything."

And Gump..

Why It Was Hated: The chocolate-box sentiment, hiding a reactionary vision of American society in which protest is punished and stupidity reigns. Oh, and beating Pulp Fiction and Shawshank to the Oscars didn't help.

Typical Online Review: "Gump's wisdom is so cliché it fails even to rise to the level of platitude. "Life is like a box of chocolates... you never know what you're gonna get." I hate to point out the obvious fact that most boxes of chocolate come with a little slip telling you exactly where to find the coconut crunch, but I think it illustrates a useful point. (Also, how wacked out of your mind do you have to be to accept candy from a mongoloid stranger on a park bench?)."

forrest gump?!?!?!?! wtf??? i mean i get all the jealous haters still upset that all the girls had a crush a jack/leo when they were kids but what is wrong with forrest gump? i've never talked ot one person who dislikes that movie for any reason..

Nomis, as someone who likes The Phantom Menace and hates Pulp Fiction, did you ever consider that just maybe a lot of other people, including the guys at Total Film, don't exactly share your definition of what's good and bad?..just sayin!

for franchise movies i actually give a shit about i.e the original star wars trilogy & the indy trilogy.

indy 4 & star wars episode 1 are what i hate most,didn't think forrest gump was so hated.

10. DIE ANOTHER DAY- the roger moore of brosnan's bonds. too much cgi and over the top-ness

9. HOUSE OF THE DEAD- really is an awful movie. even by zombie standards

8. TITANIC - never saw it, never will
7. TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN - wanted to vomit
6. BATMAN AND ROBIN - yeah we all know
5. PSYCHO (1998) - never knew it existed
4. TWILIGHT - just horrible. the transformers 2 of vampire movies (all of these movies)
3. FORREST GUMP - ???? this runs circles around all the others combined in terms of story and acting..

forest gump is not bad its ok .but batman and robin and catwoman with episode 1 top my list crystal skull is one of those films you want to like i was excited by this movie then when i got home i was like dam that was shit lol.

I don't think the list is about most hated BAD films. It's easy to hate a bad film, regardless of who the targeted audience is.

Films like Forrest Gump and Titanic, on the other hand, were fairly well received among both critics and movie goers, but I'm not surprised they're on this list, mainly because there are those niche groups of people who despise films solely on the magnitude of their cultural impact.

I see a list like this and I'm reminded of a bumper sticker I've seen: "Never underestimate the stupidity of people in large groups." Most of these movies DON'T suck. A handful do, (although NOT the "top two", despite what the pretentious jagoffs think,) but most of 'em are pretty good, fun entertainment.

All i've really found so far by searching for Forrest Gump hate is : 'I didnt like it because Pulp Fiction should have won the Oscar'

I kid you not... that is the most popular reason I've found to hate Forrest Gump

and one thing that said, "It gives stupid people a reason to be optimistic which it shouldn't"
