James Bond: MGM Already Planning for 50th Anniversary Celebration

Next year marks the 50th anniversary of 1962's Dr. No, the first James Bond film, and as MGM prepares production for Bond 23, plans are already underway for a year-long celebration to take place in 2012.

There aren't any details, but the blog Double 0 Section postulates, "Variety offers a few additional intriguing details on today's earlier story about the long-delayed next James Bond movie (Number 23 in the official chronology) finally starting production. Notably, the trade reports that "MGM, which received a cash infusion last month of $500 million, had been expected to move quickly to lock down Craig and Mendes for the project in order to take advantage of the 50th anniversary of the Bond franchise. MGM has already been working up plans for a 2012 yearlong commemoration of the golden anniversary of the first Bond pic, 1962's Doctor No." I like the sound of that! Presumably at the very least that "yearlong commemoration" will see the remaining titles finally released on Blu-ray, but what else does it hold? Theatrical re-releases? New books? (You can bet on that!) More toys? (Action figures, please!) What else? I can't wait to see! Hopefully they'll pull out all the stops. Variety also backs Sony as the most likely distributor for Bond 23: "Insiders believe MGM may turn to Sony for co-financing, as it did on Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, or sell off some major foreign territories."

So, this is your moment to chime in. What do YOU think would be an appropriate way to commemorate the 50th cinematic anniversary of Mr. Bond. James Bond?

A calendar with all the Bond girls. Also, a clone of Sean Connery should be included with each Blu-ray disc.

@tea lol ;)

A Goldfinger video game would be badass, but is to late to start doing it already lol.
Theatrical re-releases would be awesome: From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, The Man With the Golden Gun, Goldeneye and Casino Royale all back on the cinemas.

nice find man!

@tea LMAO to the first pic :P

How about DVD re-releases for all of them? Kind of like what was done for Back To The Future last year.

This sounds pretty cool. I would like to see a AAA Bond game. Not tied to a film or its release date, so they have more time to develop it.

@tea First pic is funny.

"The name is Parker... Peter Parker"

"Martini, shaken not spun err... stirred"

"00 status means I have a license to web you"

Sorry, couldn't help myself.
