WONDER WOMAN Star Gal Gadot Has Revealed That She Almost Played Furiosa In MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

In a new interview, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot reveals that she auditioned for the role of Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, narrowly losing out to Charlize Theron. Find out more after the jump.

Charlize Theron was a fan-favorite candidate to portray Wonder Woman for many years, and, ironically enough, it turns out the actress who would ultimately land that role almost played Theron's best-loved character, Furiosa.

While speaking to THR for their "Awards Chatter" podcast, Gal Gadot revealed that she was a "runner up" for the femal lead role in George Miller's superb Mad Max: Fury Road.

"I had so many almosts for big, great things, but I was never big enough of a name," she says, citing as an example the part that Charlize Theron ultimately played in 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road. "It was always me and 'the big name.'"

It's difficult to imagine anyone else but Theron in the role of Furiosa, but after witnessing Gadot bring Princess Diana to life so brilliantly, one can't help but wonder what her take on the character would have been like.

Gadot may not have had the star power to win a role in Fury Road, but something tells me if Miller ever makes a follow-up she won't have that same problem.

We'll never for sure how that would have gone, but I'm glad things worked out as they did. Theron and Gadot were perfect as Furiosa and Diana.

Yea...glad this didn't happen.

Charlize killed it. Can't imagine anyone else in the part.

Maybe EMily Blunt if I had to choose someone else.

@BlackBeltJones - They should have cast Sandra Bullock and then made Speed references the whole movie haha. But for real I just scrolled through a list of working star actresses today and there is no one I would swap out.

@L0RDbuckethead -

ME: Damn I thought she was 49, when did that happen?
YOU: Two years ago!

I stand corrected! Thanks!

@Forthas - No problem. I actually agree with that list almost completely.

But I think you forgot to consider ScarJo, Natalie Portman, and Reese Witherspoon.

At the very least Natalie Portman should be on there.

@L0RDbuckethead - I am not a big fan of Portman. She killed it in the Professional when she wa a child...but she has since had some stinkers along the way which I hold against her and most relevant to this site the Thor films where I think she phoned it in. I do think the ones you listed are just outside the list in addition to Saoirse Ronan, Rooney Mara and Hillary Swank who are all probably under appreciated.

@Forthas -

Saoirse was great in Hanna as a child and also in Grand Budapest Hotel. I haven't seen Brooklyn but she was highly praised for that. I just don't think she's done enough to warrant consideration on that list (especially over Portman or Witherspoon).

Rooney Mara is great at acting, I'm just not a really big fan of hers. However, I've only seen her in is her brief role in The Social Network (which was good for what it was, that intro scene with them at the bar was awesome, and so Aaron Sorkin) and in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (which I didn't like for personal reasons).

Hillary Swank I agree with 100% and am kind of surprised neither you nor I put her on the list initially. I guess I thought she was older than 50.

Good list though, my friend.

Now bring Charlize into the Sequel so Gal can get her revenge by decapitating Charlize's character as only a true Wonder Woman would do.

Nha i was happy with Charlize.
Just like i was happy with Connie as Hyppolita instead of Charlize.

S'all good man.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Theron was great and had the grit to go toe-to-toe with Hardy (if not zoom past him) as well as Immortan Joe. Gadot seems more fit to play one of the wives. Even as awesome as she is in Wonder Woman, there is something far more innocent about the character and that's more fitting for Gadot's presence. Not saying she couldn't give a great performance, maybe/maybe not, but let's not forget how almost everyone was against her for not being able to act, and then Wonder Woman came out...
GhostDog
GhostDog - 9/7/2017, 8:05 AM
@MosquitoFarmer - Gadot did a fine job but even her WW performance didn't convince me she has the acting chops to give the sort of visceral, nuanced and emotional performance a character like Furisosa demands.

Praise be, because Theron killed it
MrDandy
MrDandy - 9/7/2017, 8:08 AM
Nope. Charlize Theron was perfect for that role. She had the right ferocity for the role that I'm not sure if Gadot could have captured.

Charlize owned it. While I think Gadot would've been interesting in the part, Charlize is Furiosa. I would absolutely *love* to see Charlize as Cheetah btw

Can't wait for Wonder Woman 2!
