With Brad Bird's Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol being a huge success at the box office last winter (grossing nearly $700M worldwide), Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions have been fast tracking a fifth movie in the long-running action franchise. Now, the film may have a director. According to Deadline, the top choice to helm the latest Mission: Impossible movie is writer/director Christopher McQuarrie, who recently worked with star Tom Cruise on the December 21st release Jack Reacher. While it isn't official yet, McQuarrie is the director that both Cruise and producer J.J. Abrams want for the job.

Recently, McQuarrrie has become a sort of go-to guy for writing Tom Cruise's films, including Valkyrie, uncredited work on Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and the upcoming All You Need Is Kill. The writer is also set to direct Paramount's Without Remorse, and has also co-written 20th Century Fox's The Wolverine. Paramount and Skydance hope that Jack Reacher would spawn another franchise for Cruise.

Do you think Christopher McQuarrie is a good choice to direct Mission: Impossible 5?
