The reasons for Recast and Reboots!

Something that you may have not known. Nothing Last Forever!!

Ok I've been coming to this holyland of a site for some time now and one thing that I really see happening a lot is some fan boys don't like to let go. I'm sorry, but it's time to let go. Now what I mean is this, ACTORS CAN BE REPLACED!

Hugh Jackman Pictures, Images and Photos

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine
Now when I think Wolverine I don't think Hugh Jackman. Just because the man is furry as hell and brings a nice attitude, doesn't make him the perfect Wolverine. There is a man out there that would just murder Wolverine as an actor waaay better than Hugh. And I don't mean Sean Bean. I remember when people would do fancast and they would recast Wolverine with whom they wanted, then someone would comment on their fancast and say "Dude Hugh is the only Wolverine stop trying to replace him!"
Tony Stark Pictures, Images and Photos

Yeah he's a good Tony Stark but yes absolutely, there is another actor that can dominate this role. In another fancast someone came and said "Would you stop with Stark's Anatomy already? Downey Jr. Is Tony Stark, period." For now RDJ is Tony Stark, but once again, that is only for now.
Professor Xavier Pictures, Images and Photos

Another man that can be easily replaced. Don't get me wrong, all these actors are good at the roles their playing, but they can be easily replaced. Just like with all the Batman Movies from before. There were 3 different Batmans. Each one was easily replaced. There are a few good bald actors that can replace Patrick
Ben Kingsley Pictures, Images and Photos

Also everyone said that nobody can replace
The Joker Pictures, Images and Photos

That was so long ago. And personally I didn't like his take on the Joker.

**And I also think that Mark Hamill would suck as a Live Action Joker

But now after "The Dark Knight" some people are saying no one can do better than
Heath Ledger, caracterizado como 'Joker'. Pictures, Images and Photos

**I liked his Joker waaay better than Nicholson's**

He did a very good job at making this character his own. For about 2 1/2 hours that character was his, and now it's on to the next actor that can do justice to The Joker. There are a few hundred other actors that can put their own twisted mind to this lovable character.

Okay guys, the whole thing I'm saying is that actor has that character for a length of time and can easily easily easily be replaced with the next just ask

*Edward Norton
*Terrance Howard
*Megan Fox
*And that guy who was supposed to be in "Thor," but then he left and they replaced himthe next day!

you do bring up a good point, we all know that at some point whenever a series is rebooted or changes studios, not everyone makes the fray and we get new people playing our favorite characters.

The only one I would REALLLLYYYY hesitate on recasting is Stark. I mean if RDJ kicks the bucket or something, than yes, but lets try and avoid it otherwise.

The Joker is such a great character that he needs to be recast just to see the screen again.

I TOTALLY agree with you on all of these - Some (like Downey and Stewart) have given us BRILLIANT portrayals, but like you said, ANY actor can be replaced (so long as the replacement brigns something genuine to the table and doesn't try to copy his/her predecessor). One minor quip - do you REALLY consider Megan Fox to be an 'actor'? People, she's EYE CANDY! Eye candy can be replaced faster and easier than a good actor (there's always more where she came from!)! Can anyone name ONE movie that displayed her acting talents (and not her god-given ones)? I can't... can you?

It pisses me off that Nolan was smart enough not to kill the character off and now we don't get to see him again anyway. I realize why he's hesitant, but DARN IT, the character needs to be used!

may we add Spider-Man on that list of REPLACEABLES?

@ awesome

this is a fantastic article man! i agree with everything you said.

and something i think is hilarious is that a lot of people around here complain about how much "Ultimate" universe is being used in the avengers movies, yet they turn around and say RDJ is the best Tony Stark ever. which is funny, because RDJ is clearly Ultimate Tony Stark. he's the constant wisecracking, womanizing version of Stark. not 616 Stark. its just funny to me.

616 Stark is really...kind of bland. Depends on who's writing, but he does have these basic tendencies. Ultimate and Film versions are just distilled and concentrated. Pun intended.

Great article :)

I look at recasting like reading the comics. Sometimes you see Xavier drawn more like Stewart, sometimes he looks more like Kingsley. No two artists translate a character exactly the same way - so I think recasting can almost be considered 'true to source'.

And I think that people who are so crazy over Downey's take on Stark need to pick up a comicbook. I love watching the guy on screen, and he's actually one of my favorite actors - but he's no Tony Stark. RDjr plays RDjr in the Iron Man films, and he'll occasionally slip into the Tony Stark character. He may look like Stark, but he doesn't faithfully play the character I'm familiar with when I pick up a comic book... And I love Jackman's portrayal of Wolvie. He's a foot too tall, but I think that with better scripting - he'd bring the character to life effortlessly.

And if there was one character who EVER needed to be recast, it's Ghost Rider. Nic Cage DOES NOT play Johnny Blaze well in the least bit. He doesn't look like him, he doesn't act like hum and I wonder why he's playing him. It's a shame he's getting a sequel...

I agree with you 100% Great Article. I hate it when people say that an actor can't be replaced which is why in my fancasts I never use the actors who's already placed the character before.
