Because of the success of "Sherlock Holmes" Warner Bros. is moving forward with another classic adaptation. The studio already has two directors in consideration to helm its newest version of "The Three Musketeers". Peter Straughan is co-writer for the film.
The first director is David Frankel who is known for movies such as "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Marley & Me".
Doug Liman is the second director under consideration. He is best known for his films "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and "Jumper".
At the same time there is an independently-financed 3D project being put together from Paul W.S. Anderson (of "Resident Evil" fame). It was rumored that the producers wanted Taylor Lautner for the lead but he is reportedly uninterested in the part. Anderson and Andrew Davies are co-writing this version.
There have been many versions of "The Three Musketeers" through the years, most of them pretty good. I hope at least one of these new versions turns out to be worthy of the name.
