This year saw The Green Hornet, THOR, X-Men: First Class, Green Lantern and Captain America: The First Avenger hit the big screen. As it stands right now, THOR was victorious in the 2011 battle of superhero movies at the box office. Each of them were new properties (well, apart from X-Men: First Class, but it DID feature an entirely new cast) so it was always going to be a surprise no matter who eventually came out on top. 2012 is an entirely different matter altogether. Not only do we have the culmination of every Marvel Studios movie ever in the form of The Avengers, but we have a sequel to the incredibly successful The Dark Knight and a new Spider-Man movie, a franchise which was previously very financially successful in the hands of Sam Raimi. Oh, and there's also Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

The question I asked you guys to answer was simple. Which of these superhero movies do you think will be the victor come 2012? Well, here are the results in full...

It's not that shocking a result when you think about it! After all, The Dark Knight is the most financially successful comic book movie EVER and Christopher Nolan's last movie - Inception - was another big hit, so it's hard to imagine The Dark Knight Rises not following in their footsteps. But will it really be able to topple the might of The Avengers? You guys clearly think so...

It's also a bit sad to see 1 guy beat out 6 "main" characters for a team up film

@dragonking

I dunno, man....the general public still isn't sold on the reboot. People I know that don't even care about movies or comics much have been saying how ridiculous it is that they're already rebooting.

Who cares what the general public does beyond guaranteeing continued interst in CBMs. Hobbit will crush all of them anyway.

How did Toast Rider even get considered? After that last steaming pile of poo I'm suprized anyone would give money to the studio that brought us Johnny "I so wanna be Elvis" Blaze.

Fail.

AS much as I'm looking forward to Avengers, I gotta agree with TDKR just because Batman has such a history with film and will be more know to folks outside of the CM community. Either way, I'll be at the Midnight Premier of both!

Ha! What do you expect when the Nolanites vote at least 10x each.

What really will happen:

1. The Avengers
2. The Amazing Spider-Man
3. The Dark Knight Regurgitates

and a distant

4. Ghost rider: SOV

@Blagyver

Sony hasn't even started the roll out for The Amazing Spider-Man yet.Yeah some people in the general public will upon hearing about a reboot say "Why did they replace Maguire and Ramie?" But that doesn't mean they won't see the movie, especially if they have kids.True the tone of TASM appears to be darker then the Ramie films but the little bit of action we saw appears to be a lot better.TDKR will come out on top followed by Spider-Man then The Avengers.

Spider-Man is gonna make a ton. Lots of little boys will go see it just because it's Spidey.

Are you kidding me! Who voted for the avengers to beat batman? Nolan's Batman franchise will crush all superhero movies for the year 2012. Batman:DKR is the epic conclusion which everyone will no doubt see. Batman=WINNING!

TDNR will fail. Maybe not at the BO, but critic-wise. Everyone will compare it to TDK. TDK cannot be beaten.

I doubt that TDKR will dominate. Avengers and Spider-man have a much more broad appeal than Batman. There are a large number of my friends that are very hyped for the Avengers and not the DKR.

Ryguy88 - 11/9/2011, 12:46 PM
This isn't about DC or Marvel being better than the other, it's about how Nolan's Batman films have transended just being CBMs and have become somewhat of a cultural phenomenon. It goes beyond which film will include the more popular characters.

mainstream05 - 11/9/2011, 12:48 PM
What might? Only Iron Man has come close to making Batman money. People keep talking as if Avengers will bomb or be the highest grossing film ever made. I think it'll make average summer blockbuster money, adjusted for inflation.
