FLEISCHER Battles CYBER-ABE in the Animated Short "Dead Presidents Gone Wild"

The online comic Fleischer & The Group, which will be published soon in comic book form, spawns its second animated short, this one based on the first issue of said comic.

In it, we get our original introduction to Fleischer when he was much more of a Superman parody, who goes up in battle against the reincarnation of President Abraham Lincoln, who in turn appears as Cyber-Abe. It's this dead president's intent to destroy the hero of Generic City and everything that he stands for (though few have been able to figure out exactly what that is).

The voice of Fleischer is provided by Brandon McCaskil, while Cyber-Abe is voiced by Timothy Banfield in a performance that definitely brings with it "echoes" of Christopher Walken - which is, of course, purely coincidental. The script is written by yours truly with Leon McKenzie, with original art by Fernando Sosa. Animation is provided by Majd Alabras and there's even a Fleischer theme song, written and performed by James Shepard.

Years ago, the Fleischer character (as well as others making up "The Fleischerverse," including Media Geek) made his debut on CBM and its former sister site, earthsmightiest.com, in the form of comic strips, so there's something really fun about bringing these animated shorts to CBM. Hope you enjoy.

I don't get it. Is there like an origin to this character? A comic or another video? Might I suggest animating a intro sequence that explains who Fleischer is and what this world is even about. Dropping in the middle of an adventure out of context is a bit jarring. I know it would probably be a bunch of extra work, but once an introduction clip is made you can just use it in the beginning of each video. Perhaps a parody the old Fleischer Superman intro that quickly explains who Clark and Superman are and his basic power set. Seems to fit this brand 😉

But something introducing the hero and explaining the pitch, essentially, of this universe.

Is he battling pop culture characters that fall into public domain? Why is there a half robot Abe Lincoln? I could totally buy these odd scenarios if I had any set up or details at all. But just starting in the middle of these two super random characters meeting, to someone unfamiliar with this series, is odd. I had the same reaction to the previous episode. It's so random and I'm so unfamiliar with the tone or ideas behind this series, it felt almost TOO odd to vibe with.

Idk, just some constructive criticism. I don't mean to be negative, just wanted to help share what didnt work for me.

Also, not sure calling Spanish a fool language or having white folks ignorantly calling it nonsensical "Fleischer-talk" is a good look, or even particularly funny. I also found Fleischer grabbing his crotch and directly looking at children while talking about his "pee-pee".... was an interesting choice.... creatively.

I know comedy is subjective, and I dont wanna keep talking bad about the work put into this, good on you for try to make your dream happen and all, but I honestly didn't enjoy this on really any level. The ideas are a bit childish, the concept is kinda boring, I didn't see a single point to this episode other than "I like comics and I wanna make something".

I know... feedback that isn't only positive sucks, but I'm not gonna lie to you. I'd go back to tje drawing board and seriously think about if this is a concept that has longevity and a purpose worth developing more. This may just not be for me and others may love this, Idk. But you get my honest feed back.

That's the only way to know your audience is to brace yourself for their input, good and bad. Hope I wasn't too harsh.

@ElricReturns - I genuinely appreciate your constructive criticism (so much that people contains so much vitriol. An introductory sequence is a really great idea, and I thank you for that. I know I haven't impressed you so far, but if you had the time/interest, check out this first part of a comic strip (which we're working on animating) in which Captain Battle (public domain character) starts to introduce the characters. In your opinion, does something like this help? It's at https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/fleischerverse/part-1-captain-battle-introduces-fleischer-the-group/viewer?title_no=648576&episode_no=8. And as to the Spanish, Fletcher completely mangles the language, so it's hardly Spanish, but what I SHOULD have done was made his statement be a mixture of Spanish, Fresh, German and Italian. In any case, thanks again for your feedback.
