INCREDIBLES 2 Soars Toward A Record-Breaking $180 Million+ Opening Weekend
Disney-Pixar's Incredibles 2 is shattering original box office estimtaes and is now pacing for a record-breaking $180 million-plus opening weekend, which would top Iron Man 3, Batman v Superman, and more!
The latest box office estimates are in and Disney-Pixar's Incredibles 2 is soaring to an estimated $180 million-plus opening weekend at the domestic box office. Following a record-breaking $18.5 million in Thursday previews, the highly anticipated sequel to 2004's animated hit grossed an estimated $71.5 million on Friday. It's now pacing towards a record-breaking $182 million three-day debut.
Early estimates had predicted an opening weekend between $160 and $170 million (up from the original conservative estimate of $140M), which still would've been enough to overtake 2016's Finding Dory ($135M) for highest opening ever for an animated film. Now, Incredibles 2 is actually outperforming some of Marvel and DC's biggest blockbusters. Should Incredibles 2 stay on track, it's $180 million would make it the 8th best opening of all-time, beating out Captain America: Civil War ($179.1M), Iron Man 3 ($174.1M), Batman v. Superman ($166M), Dark Knight Rises ($160.9M) and plenty of others.
Comparatively, its predecessor, Incredibles, opened in 2004 with $70.5 million, which at the time was the second-largest opening for an animated feature. It went on to earn $633 million worldwide along with winning an Oscar for best animated film.
Regardless of where it places on the list for domestic openings, Disney has to be pleased with Incredibles 2's performance early on - especially after Solo: A Star Wars Story didn't quite live up to expectations. Incredibles 2 is now in theaters and is receiving rave reviews with a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
