James Cameron Discusses His Plans for Battle Angel

The Avatar director still has his sights set on Battle Angel Alita, an adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's popular manga.

James Cameron may find good use for the newly designed tech used in 'Avatar' to bring Battle Angel Alita to the big screen. The story follows the adventures of a robotic warrior rescued from the scrapheap by a scientist. Cameron had this to say to MTV News:

"The mixture of live-action and CG is a little trickier in 3-D than it is 2-D. Now we see it's good to have done Avatar first before Battle Angel, because the tricky scenes are where you're blending live-action photography, stereoscopic photography and CG."

"Shooting live stuff in 3-D and then adding CG characters and landscapes beyond that, that's a little tricky," he explained.

Fans of the manga shouldn't get too excited, though, since the project is only in it's developmental stages. When asked about possible casting decisions, Cameron said:

"We're not that far down the line. We have a very good script and we've done a lot of production design. We've done about a year of production design and we've put together an art reel that shows the arc of the film."

"It's pretty much just add water and we're ready to go."

Hopefully the newly revealed info regarding two Avatar sequels doesn't cause this project to be put on the back burner.

Thanks, Darth! Too true, gotta pull for the fellow canucks ;) I haven't seen Juno but i saw her in X-3.

As for fancasting, you just go with your favorite pics. Then you either get lapidated or praised. It's all about opinions really.
