Variety is reporting that the popular robot, Voltron, is getting a new animated series, called: "Voltron Force." Marking the 25th anniversary, the series will run for 26 episodes.

WEP and Classic Media will produce the series with Kickstart Productions, (Who did Wolverine and the X-Men), with Classic Media doing the licensing. The series and its toy-ins have been described of having Voltron as "edgier and modernized."

"What's paramount is getting the toys right," Ted Koplar, president of St. Louis-based WEP told Daily Variety. "They're pretty involved toys that have to transform and fit together."

"WEP and Classic Media had been developing a live action feature for some time but scribes, including Justin Marks, have yet to lock down the right tone." producers said.

"Voltron Force" will air on Nicktoons in 2011.

The problem with these movie studios is that they're trying to reinvent the wheel! If it ain't broke don't try to fix it! That Voltron lion cartoon was done so well that re-doing it at all almost guarantees failure! I have yet to see any adaptation that even comes close to matching the quality of the original!

I don't mind a relaunching of the cartoon, but This has Power Ranger written all over it again.
