The full interview can be found via the source link at the bottom of this page, but there were a few highlights that just had to be pulled out and spread around. From the photos and movie stills that have been floating around, not to mention the various trailers, the Racer-X costume was always going to be a challenge.
Larry and Andy Wachowski "...were basically warning me,” Fox told CBR News. “This costume’s going to be really intense. It’s going to be leather. It’s going to be hot. You’re going to do action sequences in it and you’re not going to have any use of your eyes as an actor. Are you worried about that?”
In reply, Fox was nonchalant: “I’m not worried about it. I’m so fired up for the challenge.”
The suit also became part of how Fox would don the character, as he donned the suit. “This suit got to the point for me when I put it on and dropped that helmet on, I was just IN IT,” he explained. “People were different around me.”
However it did present a few challenges for the man who performed all his own stunts. “The lenses would fog. It led to me hitting a couple of stunt guys accidentally.” Fox said he felt bad about that, but, “you have to bring those moves in really tight … or it looks like a miss.”
As for his role within the movie, Fox saw himself as the “satellite orbiting” the Racer family, looking to protect Speed in his formative years of racing.
