ANT-MAN Actress Evangeline Lilly Offers "Sincere & Heartfelt Apology" For Self-Isolation Stance

Evangeline Lilly (Ant-Man, Lost) recently shared a controversial Instagram post which winded up causing a lot of backlash, and the actress has now offered an apology for her "arrogant and cryptic message."

Last week, when most celebs were encouraging people to stay at home and practice self-isolation as the world attempts to deal with the spread of COVID-19, Ant-Man star Evangeline Lilly shared an Instagram post stating that it was still "business as usual" for her.

Lilly revealed that she had just dropped her kids off at gymnastics camp, and had no intention of taking any self-quarantine measures amid the ongoing pandemic. The former Lost star defended her stance by saying, "some people value their lives over freedom, some people value freedom over their lives."

Not surprisingly, her post came in for a lot of backlash, with fans and other celebs such as Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner calling her out for what was widely considered to be an irresponsible and dangerous stance.

Now, Lilly has posted a follow-up message.

Hello everyone.
I am writing you from my home where I have been social distancing since Mar 18th – when social distancing was instituted in the small community where I am currently living. At the time of my Mar 16th post, the directives from the authorities here were that we not congregate in groups of more than 250ppl and that we wash our hands regularly, which we were doing. Two days later, those directives changed and, despite my intense trepidation over the socioeconomic and political repercussions of this course of action, PLEASE KNOW I AM DOING MY PART TO FLATTEN THE CURVE, PRACTICING SOCIAL DISTANCING AND STAYING HOME WITH MY FAMILY.
I want to offer my sincere and heartfelt apology for the insensitivity I showed in my previous post to the very real suffering and fear that has gripped the world through COVID19. Grandparents, parents, children, sisters and brothers are dying, the world is rallying to find a way to stop this very real threat, and my ensuing silence has sent a dismissive, arrogant and cryptic message. My direct and special apologies to those most affected by this pandemic. I never meant to hurt you. When I wrote that post 10 days ago, I thought I was infusing calm into the hysteria. I can see now that I was projecting my own fears into an already fearful and traumatic situation.
I am grieved by the ongoing loss of life, and the impossible decisions medical workers around the world must make as they treat those affected. I am concerned for our communities – small businesses and families living paycheck-to-paycheck – and I am trying to follow responsible recommendations for how to help. Like many of you, I fear for the political aftermath of this pandemic, and I am praying for us all. At the same time, I am heartened by the beauty and humanity I see so many people demonstrating toward one another in this vulnerable time. When I was grappling with my own fears over social distancing, one kind, wise and gracious person said to me “do it out of love, not fear” and it helped me to realize my place in all of this.
Sending love to all of you, even if you can’t return it right now. EL

Considering The U.S. now leads the world in confirmed coronavirus cases, this was probably the right move!

How have you guys been handling the situation? Feel free to let us know how you're coping in the comments, and stay safe out there.

HeavyMetal4Life - I know right all this drama!!! People!!! Everything is under control. Why just today, I went to the store like normal. Went by my favorite donut shop. And, ok even though it said they were hot and ready, I could not smell them, but maybe they turned on the sign too eairly. We're ok . And even though I had to change clothes twice due to me sweating profusely until semi dehydration obviously because of this confusing March humidity. It's fiiine... Only complaint is just that darn pollen which is giving me a relentless and persistent dry cough that makes my heels tingle when my stomach does that wierd bubbling underwater can opener sound, but mind you, only when I get the taste of old pennies under my tongue which is thankfully ever other 4 hours can you imagine if that was constant, Still trying to figure that one out.. But besides that it was a good day. And I am on my way to Eskimo kiss night at my great great grand parents three legged race club. We are soooo excited, it is opening night, and for newbies there is no cover charge, wish us luck.

Sounds like the CEO of my company who was like “the virus is a hoax by the fake news media, we’re not shutting down.” 10 days later and everyone’s WFH, all clients have paused work, and his business is getting financially spitroasted. Wonder if that science is real enough for you now

Well written apology. Was definitely needed. Of course for her own good PR but nonetheless, nice.

@Necropolitan - yeah, I thought the same too, agree with all that. All I'll say is not everyone has the guts these days to admit when they are wrong, so props to her for putting this out and saying what she said- she didn't have to, but she did.
