ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Star Evangeline Lilly Wanted More Romance In The Marvel Film
Ant-Man and the Wasp just hit theaters in the UK, and now star Evangeline Lilly reveals that she actually pushed for more romance between Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne. You can find out more after the jump.
Star Evangeline Lilly has proven that she's unafraid to criticize the way her characters are handled and has voiced her displeasure over being involved in love triangles on Lost and in the Hobbit films.
But as part of an interview to promote Ant-Man and the Wasp's UK release, the Wasp actress revealed that she actually asked to increase the amount of romance in the film.
"You might be surprised to find out that, if anything, in these films, I've sort of pushed the romance up just a notch – just the tiniest bit," Lilly said before expressing her appreciation that Reed and the producers went another route. "Because it was there all the time but the Marvel executives and Peyton were so cool – and Paul I think, as well – about not wanting that to be at all what she's about, and wanting her to have this incredible career, this incredible drive and motivation, and for the love story to be absolutely back seat to everything else in the movie, which I love, and I think it's appropriate."
However, Lilly still wished to see more from the relationship between Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne, because the heroes "are so adorable together," and the audience wants to "see the fruition of that chemistry."
The actress then revealed that her efforts did lead to one alteration: "So, in Ant-Man and The Wasp it was me who added the – spoiler alert – kiss. There wasn't one in the script."
While this moment doesn't completely alter the story of the film, it is surprising that it wasn't included in the script, especially since we already saw the duo kiss in the first Ant-Man, and the effect of Scott's action on their relationship was a fairly significant plot point.
