That interview with Fiege where he said they removed Ant-Man and Wasp from the Avengers cause Edgar wanting to do this thing pretty much revealed Edgar had been holding the growth of the MCU back this whole time. I'm glad Reed is on board now. He is excited about it and that's what matters most.

A little worried about this but it sounds like the general public never knew about Pym and Ant-Man, so seems like Marvel is playing with secret identities.... I think Pym and Janet will play into the Agent Carter show

The problem with Edgar Wright is that he's been developing this film (yeah I know he's really passionate about it) way way too long, even before the first iron man, I mean, he's not blind and he can see that a CINEMATIC UNIVERSE is growing and developing rapidly right before his very eyes! He must be smart enough to know the ramifications of what Marvel is doing with their Cinematic Universe and his project that he's developing for years and years. Granted that the main reason that marvel is doing this is because of him BUT come on, at least have some decency to return back the favor by just being collaborative about this project, what he did somewhat for me is...took his balls with him and went home.

Edgar Wright on Ant-Man

One of the things I don't want to do is get into the whole Marvel history...

That character isn't one of [Marvel Studios'] biggest properties.

We [Wright and Feige] discussed whether he would be in The Avengers. The thing is, the script that I’ve written [...] the chronology of it or the way it works wouldn’t really fit in with what they do.

Kevin Feige - last year

Frankly, now we have to re-write [Ant-Man] to put it a little bit more into the [Marvel Cinematic Universe] because it was written before it existed

Kevin Feige

We changed, frankly some of the MCU to accommodate this version of Ant-Man. Knowing what we wanted to do with Edgar and with Ant-Man, going years and years back, helped to dictate what we did with the roster for Avengers the first time. It was a bit of both in terms of his idea for the Ant-Man story influencing the birth of the MCU in the early films leading up to Avengers.

DrKinsolving: Unless they make Hank Pym considerably older than Michael Douglas really is, I don't see how that could really happen. Douglas was born in 1944, the first season of Agent Carter will be set in 1946.

Evangeline Lilly has a tendency to take roles that (a vocal part of) the fans hate. Kate on Lost, Tauriel in The Hobbit trilogy, now this...

Look if what Edgar Wright wanted to do didn't really fit into the MCU then he did the right thing by leaving.

That seems to be exactly what happened. He realized this wasn't going to work anymore. Therefor he wouldn't be satisfied with Ant-Man anymore, so he left. That simple.

Everyone around here makes it sounds like Kevin Fiege put a gun to his head and demand he do what he wants or else. It's incredible. If that were true why did Kevin let Edgar lead him on for years? I mean. THINK about it.

It was... A story Edgar wanted to tell that we'll see with Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd, and now we're 11 films in...

I think Edgar is very much one of those directors who feels his world is his world and he shouldn't need to worry about it being part of the real world. It's not a bad way for a creative mind or creative director to be, but it is NOT the type of mind that will work with a shared universe of DC or Marvel. Could Edgar do a DC television show on say CBS? Sure, the brand is different and not part of a shared universe so he could and it would likely be interesting to fantastic.

I think when Marvel was first starting and Edgar came to them with the idea, they could not have predicted shared universe would work. Then when it started working, I guess they figured 'ok, Edgar is creative, he'll get it' and well, Edgar didn't. It makes neither the bad guy, just two different approaches to the process. Marvel wants a shared universe, Edgar may have wanted an Ant-Man universe without the MCU implications. So really the only mistake the two sides made is they didn't bother to find this out from the start or even in the middle when they saw it was working. They each had an expectation and neither could meet that expectation anymore. It's a shame, it's sad but it is what it is and now Marvel is trying to make his idea work since they can't turn back now.

Edgar Wright on Ultron

It was never in my script. Because even just to sort of set up what Ant-Man does is enough for one movie.

I hate to be "that" guy, but I literally have no expectations or any investment in an Ant-Man movie (and even less so with Wright off the project). The whole mentor/mentee aspect and the "passing of the torch" thing is pretty intriguing...but I'm pretty meh on the whole concept of this thing. Safe to say I'll be watching this movie solely because of the afore-mentioned aspects, and the strong cast (mostly Rudd, Douglas, Stoll, and Evangeline Lilly). Other than that, I just couldn't care less about an Ant-Man movie.

@dethpillow Glad to hear that Peyton Reed is a fan at heart, I mean the guy just had his 20th Anniversary of attending Comic-con, he's pumped up for this film and HE (with the rest of Marvel Team) knows that this film is Edgar Wright's Passion Project. They will still adapt the DNA of his and Joe Cornish's script and tone for this film. Reed is simply carrying Edgar Wright's work and he knows it and he's grateful for the opportunity and what the so called "FANS" did to him at comic con?

They boo the hell out of him then laugh at his expense after.

These things sickens me that these people are "FORTUNATE" that they are in HALL H and the least thing they could do is appreciate and support them in making this film.

I've been on the bandwagon of blaming Marvel for the whole situation, but I'm starting to believe that there's no side that's really at fault here. It's just two parties that drifted in different directions over the course of almost a decade. It happens.

Still, whatever the case may be, I'm MUCH more interested in seeing a behind-the-scenes documentary about the production of Ant-Man than I am in watching the movie itself.

Edgar Wright's very own Trilogy doesn't even have continuity with each-other aside from the returning core of actors and production Team.

That should tell you everything you need to know about Edgar's willingness to compromise for Marvel's plans.

I'm pretty sure no one booed Peyton Reed either. El Mayimbe, Devin Faraci, and others on twitter who were there claim that there was a subdued response to him, but no booing. I feel like more people would've reported that. It'd be ridiculously out of character for the fans who flock to Comic-Con anyway, where they cheer the crap out of EVERYTHING and EVERYONE.

Seriously, studios get "tricked" all the time because fans there cheer for everything (footage, trailers, casting decisions, etc), so studios just assume that the rest of the audience will like it too...and a lot of the time, they don't. Booing doesn't fit the profile of the stereotypical sycophantic fans that usually fill up Hall H.
