Yesterday was the two-year anniversary of the theatrical release of Avengers: Endgame, and those involved with bringing the epic Infinity Saga finale to the screen have been marking the occasion on social media with a series of photos and thank you messages to fans.

Following some previously unseen behind-the-scenes shots from directors Joe and Anthony Russo, star Robert Downey Jr. has shared new BTS footage from a scene which didn't make it into the final cut of the film.

In the deleted sequence, Tony Stark find himself in the "Soul World" after giving his life to defeat Thanos and save the planet. There, he encounters an older version of his daughter Morgan (Katherine Langford), who assured her father that he made the right decision. This video shows RDJ acting out the beginning of the scene, immediately post "snap."

Downey Jr. captioned his Tweet with the hashtag #ILoveYouAll3000 (sniff).

Endgame would go on to become the highest-grossing movie of all time, a title it managed to hold until the recent rerelease of James Cameron's Avatar in China. Something tells us Marvel Studios will eventually attempt to reclaim the crown, however.

I think one way to bring him back in the MCU, that doesn't bring Stark back to life, is to have his voice as the new AI for an Iron Man suit. Like say Ironheart has RDJ's voice assisting her for stuff.

Other than that, he's done. Amazing run, but he's done.

With both Thor and Captain America getting another movie with a new character taking on the mantle, I wonder if Iron Man is next. We're already getting Ironheart, but I rather see Ty Simpkins' Harley Keener or Katherine Langford's Morgan Stark to be honest.

@bkmeijer - iron heart always felt like a corporate mandate, as opposed to a genuine attempt at a character. Morgan however would naturally fit into the role of her fathers.

@Origame - I could also see them playing the long game. Marvel Studios is going to run out of interesting comics to get inspired by eventually

RDJ was so dedicated to the role, that he actually created the infinity stones and snapped them, dying in real life.

The Russo Brothers were so impressed they kept the footage in the film.

He’ll be back sooner or later, it’s just a matter of when. With time travel a thing it’s easy to bring anyone back.
