AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR SPOILERS: The Location Of All Of The Infinity Stones And How They Come Into Play

Here you'll find a breakdown of where each of the six Infinity Stones are located in Avengers: Infinity War. Does The Mad Titan ultimately get his gauntlet on all of them? Massive SPOILERS will follow...

The entire plot of Avengers: Infinity War revolves around Thanos searching for the six Infinity Stones so he can accomplish his mission of "balancing" the universe by wiping out half of all life in it, and in the end, he gets his hands on all of 'em.

Going in, we already had a pretty good idea where all but one of the incredibly powerful gems were located, but the real surprises lay in witnessing how The Mad Titan ultimately wound up acquiring them.

You'll find all the details below, but beware of massive SPOILERS if you haven't seen the movie yet.

Power Stone (Orb)

We don't actually see Thanos acquire the Power Stone, as it's already been added to the Gauntlet when the movie begins. However, we do find out how he got his hands on it later on in the movie.

Last time we saw the purple gem, the Guardians of the Galaxy had entrusted it to the Nova Corps for protection, and when the space-faring A-holes bump into Thor (literally) he informs them that The Mad Titan decimated the entire planet of Xandar to retrieve it.

Space Stone (Tesseract)

The first of the stones we actually see Thanos add to the Gauntlet is the blue Space Stone which powers the Tesseract.

The warlord's forces attack Thor's ship and wipe out half of the refugees aboard before Thanos threatens to end The God of Thunder's life if his brother doesn't hand over the Tesseract.

Loki calls his bluff at first, but soon realises that The Mad Titan means business and forks over the goods.

Reality Stone (Aether)

At the end of Thor: The Dark World, the Reality Stone was entrusted to The Collector in the form of the Aether, and that's where the GOTG find Thanos in the process of "persuading" Tivan to hand it over.

Except, he's not... or rather, he already has.

The Mad Titan had already nabbed the stone before the Guardians arrived and used it to warp reality in order to trap Gamora.

Soul Stone

This was the big one. Fans speculated endlessly on the whereabouts of the Soul Stone, and many did guess correctly that Gamora would have some connection to it.

It turns out that the fiercest woman in the galaxy was the only one that knew where the stone was being kept, and when her "father" pries the info out of her by torturing Nebula, they go to Vormir to retrieve it.

Unfortunately for Thanos - and even more unfortunately for his daughter - The Red Skull informs him that he needs to sacrifice what he loves most to earn the right to wield it. By bye Gamora.

Time Stone (Eye Of Agamotto)

The Time Stone was in the care of Doctor Strange in the form of the Eye of Agamotto, before he willingly handed it over to Thanos to save Iron Man's life on Titan.

This scene seems to have left a few people confused, but there's a good chance that it was all part of the only scenario in which the Avengers are able to defeat Thanos. The prevailing theory is that when The Sorcerer Supreme glimpsed the future he discovered that they need to allow The Mad Titan to complete his mission.

How will they attempt to reverse what happened? We'll have to wait until Avengers 4 to find out.

Mind Stone (Loki's Sceptre)

The final stone is the catalyst for the Battle of Wakanda, as it's housed in the head of Vision.

Our heroes do their utmost to keep Thanos away from the yellow gem, but in the end, even Scarlet Witch destroying it - and her lover in the process - is to no avail as The Mad Titan simply reverses time and rips it out of Vision's forehead himself. Then...

"SNAP"

Yes, even after getting Stormbreaker buried in his chest, Thanos still manages to snap his fingers and complete his apocalyptic quest.

The gauntlet looks to be in pretty bad shape after this but we assume the stones are still in tact, as the villain uses them to retreat to a nice, peaceful location where he can "watch the sun rise over a grateful universe."

You really should have gone for the head, Thor.

@RorMachine - I enjoy this site. There have been at least three previous article titles that you wrote that were spoiler-ey. I'd appreciate more attention to that before you publish. Thank you.

I'm curious about the Red Skull, did he became someone similar like the Unseen or what?
He gained new powers that's for sure.
Poor fella stuck there for so long, at least Steve and Bucky got to sleep for a couple of years! :P

Yep, that's where they met my (high) expectations.
THE moment where i went "woohoo baby, that's what i'm talking about!!" :P

This time the Italian dubbing helped a lot, he was talking and talking and i had no idea who he was, just that the character was a male, so no Death.
But when i saw his face...ehehe.

@Doomsday8888 -
I view him kind of like a Horcrux - he's a piece of Red Skull bound to a specific location. I dont think we'll ever see him again to be completely honest.

@Doomsday8888 - Did Korg and Valkyrie die with the asgardians? .... And all the ppl that the guardians saved in Xandar: gone.... damn

@pepe - i believe Thor tells Rocket that half the ship survived. I assume, and hope Valyrie and Korg were the ones that led them to freedom. I also assume Hulk escorted them to safety, otherwise why else would he wait until the rest of the Asgardians all die before appearing to fight Thanos?

Still spells out Thanos. I was racking my brain after watching the movie to try and figure out how H landed on the Soul Stone and then I figured it out. Thanos had to sacrifice his "heart" AKA his love for Gomora to get the Soul Stone.
ShogunOfSorrow
ShogunOfSorrow - 4/28/2018, 6:11 AM
@RocknRolla - I've never understood this. Is the idea that Thanos got his name from the gems or that the MCU named the stones such that they spell out his name?

i don’t understand why ppl r so bent out of shape about dr strange giving the stone to Thanos. He obviously saw that the only way to win was to let him win this battle.
RageDriver2401
RageDriver2401 - 4/28/2018, 6:28 AM
@Grodd87 - it's clearly part of the plan. He said there was only one possibility in which they win, and he said there was no other way. Strange has got this.

Btw, totally loved how he was all take charge of the situation. And to think of it it's only his second movie.

@Grodd87 - I was talking to my brother after the movie about this. I thought it was obvious. I told him probably 90% of the audience won't get it.
HarrowRed
HarrowRed - 4/28/2018, 1:08 PM
@Maculis - willing to best he used the time stone to go back in time and seal ant man and Hawkeye in the mirror dimension or something so that thanos couldn't get them. Then is A4 ant man and Hawkeye have to assemble the avengers earlier, and focus on gathering the stones before thanos. Then they can battle him across the multiverse and fix the main timeline
TomSolo
TomSolo - 4/29/2018, 7:24 AM
@HarrowRed - That would be really cool. I am not so sure though. I think Strange may have seen the one way to win was to have to sacrifice have the universe, and then catch Thanos when his guard is down.

Maybe he didn't look far enough ahead to see that the dead heroes can be saved later.

Finally got to watching the latest AOS episode and it got me thinking. AOS has to get another season or they just wrote themselves into a hole. The episode confirmed the show is still connected to the wider MCU and that the events of IW are happening at the same time. The season will either end before the snap, which would be a cop out, or after, which it should. If the show ends on a cliffhanger like that, knowing we won't see how the team deals with it going forward, up until a potential fix in A4, then they really [frick]ed up. That would really suck, I mean this has been the best season.
