Here's 2018's Most Highly Anticipated Superhero Movie According To IMDb But Is It More Bad News For DC?
IMDb has unveiled the ten most highly anticipated movies of 2018 but with the likes of Avengers: Infinity War, Aquaman, and Solo: A Star Wars Story all vying for a place, who failed to make the cut?
IMDb has revealed the Top 10 most highly anticipated movies of 2018 and it makes for very interesting reading indeed. Rather than base its annual rankings on small statistical samplings or reviews from professional critics, IMDb determines its list of most popular movies by the actual page views of the more than 250 million monthly unique visitors to IMDb so that arguably makes this pretty accurate.
These 10 movies were consistently most popular with IMDb users but which superhero movies made the cut? There are a lot coming in 2018 with only Aquaman hailing from the DC Films Universe.
Fox, meanwhile, has New Mutants and X-Men: Apocalypse, while Marvel Studios has Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man and The Wasp. Oh, and don't forget Venom over at Sony Pictures! So, to see which upcoming movies made the top 10 and which ones failed to find a place here, all you need to do is click on either one of the buttons below to see the list of movies in its entirety.
10. Solo: A Star Wars Story
We're five months away from Solo: A Star Wars Story and Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to release so much as a single official image from the troubled production which saw the studio fire original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller and replace them with Ron Howard. Will it be delayed, though?
9. Mission: Impossible 6
Mission: Impossible 6 is very much shrouded in secrecy but most fans now blame it for why we got a Superman in Justice League who had the weirdest CGI jaw on the planet. That's because Paramount Pictures refused to let Henry Cavill shave off his moustache for those reshoots.
8. Ocean's Eight
A female-led reboot/sequel to the long-running franchise which went off the rails with Ocean's Twelve and Ocean's Thirteen, the recently released teaser trailer points to George Clooney's character having been killed off, something which pretty much closes the door on him making any sort of cameo.
7. The Predator
Comic book fans may be divided over some of the creative decisions made by Shane Black in Iron Man 3 but the filmmaker proved that he knows what he's doing when it comes to blockbuster filmmaking and it will be interesting seeing what he does when he reboots this beloved franchise next year.
6. Pacific Rim: Uprising
Pacific Rim was a disappointment at the box office but it performed well enough overseas that a sequel is happening (minus Guillermo del Toro). It's easy to see why even those who didn't enjoy the first instalment are excited, though, especially as it stars Star Wars: The Last Jedi's John Boyega.
5. Tomb Raider
Despite the fact that video games have a notoriously bad reputation, Tomb Raider definitely looks like a faithful adaptation and that could be why there's such a huge amount of positive buzz surrounding it. Throw in the fact that it stars Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander and things are looking good for this one.
4. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Jurassic World was a monster-sized hit so it should come as no surprise to see that the sequel is generating a lot of excitement. The return of Jeff Goldblum's character no doubt helps and with the story set to revolve around an exploding volcano and the park's dinosaurs, this looks like great fun.
3. Deadpool 2
Despite the fact that the Disney/Fox deal has put the Merc with the Mouth's R-Rated future in doubt, the sequel (well, what little we've seen of it) looks downright amazing and the marketing campaign has been great fun so far. With Deadpool, Cable, and Domino all set to appear, this will be a must-see.
2. Black Panther
Like Ant-Man and Thor before him, Black Panther has been widely considered a B-List character. However, following his introduction in Captain America: Civil War, the perception of T'Challa has changed and with Ryan Coogler at the helm and an impressive cast in front of the camera, this should be very special indeed.
1. Avengers: Infinity War
Sorry, Aquaman! The DC Comics adaptation (the only one actually set to be released in 2018) has failed to make the cut and it's Marvel Studios' massive superhero ensemble which is leading the pack. Avengers: Infinity War will finally unite Earth's Mightiest Heroes with the Guardians of the Galaxy as Thanos arrives on Earth looking to assemble the Infinity Stones and rule the universe.
