After (supposedly) hanging up the claws for good after Logan, Hugh Jackman broke the internet when he announced that he'd be reprising the role of Wolverine for a team-up with Ryan Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth in Deadpool 3.
At the time, fans wondered if this was going to be a one-off, or if Jackman would be staying on as the MCU's version of the ionic mutant, and we may now have our answer.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman (via Patreon), Jackman met with Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike to discuss his future as the character, and it sounds like the Aussie actor might be lining up a "big role" in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Previous reports have indicated that Secret Wars is going to be a seriously stacked event, with multiple Variants of pretty much every major hero (and villain?) from all across the Multiverse getting in on the action, so Wolvie's involvement really wouldn't be a major surprise - but a significant role for Jackman is something we weren't expecting.
Does this mean that Jackman's version of Wolverine will remain in the MCU, with a new team of X-Men built around him? It's way too early to call, but it would give the studio some breathing room and allow for the introduction of new characters while retaining an important - and very popular - link to the past.
