AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Co-Director Says Chris Evans' Steve Rogers Will Be "The Spirit" Of Nomad In The Film
During a new interview, Avengers: Infinity War co-director Joe Russo addressed the persistent rumors that Steve Rogers would be dropping the mantle of Captain America and taking up the fight as Nomad...
For many fans, Steve Rogers suiting-up as Nomad in Avengers: Infinity War was pretty much a forgone conclusion, but despite Chris Evans himself seemingly confirming this to be the case, it's now looking more likely that he was just having a bit of fun with the fans.

While being interviewed on Fantasy Focus Football, the movie's co-director Joe Russo was asked about the rumor, and although he did admit that the plan for Rogers was always to "deconstruct him, to take him in a different direction," it sounds like the character will be Nomad in spirit only.
"Obviously you can't deal with a character called Captain America without dealing with the thematics behind that, so we wanted a relevancy to it and we wanted to put him in a position where he was questioning the chain of command. You'll see in these Avengers films, he's on a very specific journey as a character. Some people have suspected that he may be Nomad heading into Avengers 3 and I wouldn't say that he is exactly Nomad, but he is the spirit of that character."
This could be taken to mean that, for all intents and purposes, the disillusioned Sentinel of Liberty will be Nomad - we just shouldn't expect to see him don the cape!
