GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Vol. 2 Director James Gunn Teases The Team's Role In AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

We know the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in Avengers: Infinity War, but just how important will they be to the highly anticipated ensemble? James Gunn makes a surprising revelation here...

We've known for a while now that the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in Avengers: Infinity War, but the role they'll play isn't clear. Both Gamora and Nebula have a history with Thanos while Drax is looking for revenge after the murder of his family so the team has good reason to get involved here, especially as they know about the Infinity Stones and Star-Lord originally hails from Earth.

Asked by Complex about how the heroes factor into the movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
director and Avengers: Infinity War producer James Gunn weighed in on their small, but vital, role here.

"You know listen, I don't think we should overstate things that it is an Avengers movie," the filmmaker explained, "but the Guardians are a part of the cosmic universe, they're a part of Thanos' stories, so, they are in there, and they have, not the biggest, but, an integral part to that."

The Guardians will be making more than just a cameo appearance here, but it definitely doesn't sound as if they'll play anywhere near as big a role as Earth's Mightiest Heroes. That does make sense considering the fact it's them Thanos is coming for, but this movie will hopefully still deliver a satisfying team-up between the two groups of heroes! What do you guys think? Let us know in the usual place.

Remember when Gunn described the Guardians' motivations? Man, Guardians 2 will be great but the movie's going to be about daddy issues. I really hope that doesn't transfer into Infinity War for the motivations of all characters.

@grif - Obviously. But then again the prospect of this being Avengers+GOTG is what makes it potentially a 2 billion dollar grosser

So I guess its not the MCU vs Thanos. This might play out like the battle against Thanos from the Avengers Assemble cartoon.

I expect their involvement to parallel Spidey and Black Panther's roles in Civil War. A fine line that between both of those characters participation in the plot.

For now I can just picture Drax having a more substantially-ish role in which he will have his chance to avenge his family once he has Thanos in front of him.

I can definitely see the Avengers accidentally running afoul of the Guardians in their quest to stop Thanos. They both run into each other on their respective journey's to stop the Mad Titan.

You gotta bet Gamora and Nebula have some idea of their deaR dad's plans and once they get a whiff of him actually getting close to succeeding, they head off into space to intervene at the end of GOTG VOL 2.

@BlackBeltJones - Do you think Quill knows anything about the Avengers?

I don't think any of the GoGs have ever heard anything about them.

I mean he left Earth before Cap came back and the Hulk and Ironman appeared.

Maybe he heard stories about Cap before he was frozen? Coulson had cards so it must have been out there.
